Leaving Huntingdale we set off on the open road to our first stop, Fremantle.
Fremantle is a lovely little harbour town that is full of some quaint little shops, a history with the famous Fremantle prison, and a seafront lined with award winning fish and chip shops. Walking around the town for a few hours we then headed straight to the fish and chip shop to try there signiture food for lunch. New Zealand Hake and chips for $15 a portion we was expecting great things. The fish was lovely, although the chips were from frozen. Not as impressed, however we tucked in and then headed on to one of the famous local chocolate cafes for a delicious chocolate Mocha coffee for desert.
As always it's interesting looking out for the local Aborigines within the towns. Encountering them firstly in Perth we discovered that they are probably the most loopy race of people we have ever encountered and have yet to find a sane and sober one! You can spot them from a mile away, and if you don't spot them first then you definitely hear them. Whilst walking around Fremantle we discovered a small group of them causing havoc again. This time around three men and one woman brawling and yelling at each other in the street. After screaming at each other the bloke casually picks up a cafe chair and hits his missus in the back with it before it rebounds into the road. They then casually walk away with their caveman/animal like strut still cursing at each other at the top of their voices and looking back at the missus flat out on the pavement. Aborigines are people that you would cross the street for to avoid walking past, scary people with scary faces.
After exploring the Fremantle markets we met up with our friends for a few beers and a catchup before crashing at their place for the night.
The following morning we set off to our first campsite just outside of Fremantle to recover from the drinking session. A nice afternoon relaxing by our tent with the sun shining on us. That night the storms hit at around midnight. The tent shook as the winds smashed into it and as the rain pelted down we made a quick getaway to the car to try and get some sleep. By morning all the tent pegs had blown out and it was only our rucksacks that was keeping it weighted down. Rather tired we set off again in Joey to nearby Rockingham to meet the owners of the next house sit in October. Pulling up outside the house we was very impressed. A beautiful modern new build house set with a big balcony and sea view. Our nicest house so far! After a brew and a chit chat we continued our journey south to Margaret river to begin our wine tasting tour! Hayls and Jonathan x
