A few more stories from Bangkok...
We had an exciting and busy day on Sunday, we were up early for our 7am pick up and off we went to the floating markets at Dummoen Saduek which were incredible. Hundreds of people floating around on various types of boats selling absolutely everything. We started our experience on a speed boat cutting through the swamps (which Hayley insisted were infested with crocs!!) and the only thing that helped us to not stand out as complete tourists was the chinese guy in front of us who would scream louder than even hayley every time a wave of swamp water soaked us, very funny stuff! Then we transfered to a much more tranquil boat ride through the congested motorway like canals!! It was by far our best experience.
After a pleasant journey across the Thai countryside and a very light lunch (much to Mikes disgust!) we found ourselves at the historical river Kwai museum, where we soaked up the culture. We finally got to walk across the famous Kwai "death" bridge built by the POW's during World War II. Hayley nearly added to the death rate by getting a little camera happy and nearly stepping through a rather large gap in the floor. No need to worry though as we were soon witnessing a young Thai girl hanging on to a moving train as it crossed the bridge which we decided was far more death defying!
So after our Thai history lesson it was off to the infamous Tiger temple where we got to hang out with real unchained tigers and have our photos taken with them. The cubs were so cute we nearly had to take 1 home for Hayley, Indy would have loved him, a new playmate!
And then it was a very long bus ride back to Bangkok for our last night where we partied the night away in a dis-used petrol station converted into a bar. Very strange!
Stories and pictures from Chiang Mai to come.
Love Hayley and Mike xxx
