What a day! We were up and out to hear the peace bell ring at 8.15, as it does every morning at the time the bomb detonated. We then visited the peace museum. The museum was informative but at the same time heart breaking and we both felt quite low afterwards. We strolled in the sunshine to Hiroshima castle and the Gokoku Shrine before catching the train to Tadanoumi Port via Mihara then the ferry across to Okunoshima (rabbit island). The train ride from Mihara to Tadanoumi was very scenic with sandy beaches and lots of remote islands. Okunoshima was stunning and the rabbits an added bonus. It was another sunny day and the bunnies were lying in the shade. As we climbed up the island to see the view I stopped to take it in and take a photo when I felt a nudge on my foot and looked down to see the bunny in the photo. The bunny ate my bunny food while I enjoyed the view. Fantastic! After a long day we stopped at a restaurant near our hotel on our way back and had another amazing experience. It was an Okonomiyaki restaurant and we were invited to sit at the front where the food was cooked in front of us on a hot plate. These are renowned in the Hiroshima area and were really tasty. A great end to a great day.
