Railay Beach
Mark: Early start again as we had booked a snorkeling trip to visit 4 islands around Krabi. Chicken Island, Tham Phra Nang, Poda Island & Tup Island. The longtail boat arrived from Ao Nang Beach and picked us up from west Railay beach. We climbed on board with the 54 other passengers. I hate these big tours where you feel like a Chinese sardine, snap snapping with your camera, at everything that moves along the way. First stop was Poda island which was pretty lame for snorkeling, as it was mostly sandy with not many fish. Surprisingly though I did see 2 blue banded sea-snakes which were cool. Just before it was time to head back to the boat I sliced the sole of my foot open on some coral... there goes the early morning running - doh! Back on the boat with the rest of the sardines, we headed to the next island. More of the same it was soon time for lunch. Being really hungover and starving this was an important meal to restore my energy levels and make me feel like a new man... Enter polystyrene takeaway box with a fistful of cold rice, a piece of cabbage, one carrot, one prawn, some oyster sauce and one chicken drumstick. I could've sworn on the tour leaflet it said gourmet seafood lunch!! Anyways, I wolfed it down and half of Kim's lunch too and jumped in the sea for another swim. Our final stop was Tham Phra Nang beach which you can walk to from Railay East. It's actually a really awesome beach with Princess Cave on its left but zero snorkeling prospects. I thought this was a snorkeling trip?? The beach is right in front of the Rayavadee Resort (5 star). I had looked into staying there for our honeymoon and am now glad that we didn't go there. As a resort goes, it looks top notch. But if you're after privacy on the beach on your honeymoon then I'm afraid this is the worst place to go to as the beach is open to the public and gets pretty packed...
That night we had dinner with TJ & Kayla at the Viewpoint restaurant. They do some juicy big skewers and a free buffet. I ordered crocodile. Yes that's right CROCODILE - it tasted similar to chicken with similar texture. Pretty good I'd say. After a long day it was time to internet for an hour and then straight to bed.
