First day in Fiji, we arrive at 5.30 am, have a crazy taxi driver who gets us to drink this random drink called cava which is disgusting and I will never drink again. Next he invites us to meet some of his Indian girls who are apparently fairly cheap, followed shortly by offering us any drugs that we might need. Having escaped this lunatic we found ourselves relaxing on the beach and poolside until we ventured out to get some cash from the local supermarket. It was here that by complete coincidence we met Nagle who was over the road at the internet café, probably stalking us on facebook. So at 3.30 we met them for a few beers across the road at this $3 beer bar (£1) and after a few decided to go for a quick game of touch rugby, and quick it was. The sweltering heat added with a communal lack of cardio vascular exercise did this for us so after a trip to the shower we headed back to the bar for more drinks. By the time myself and Kemp felt it necessary to have dinner, the drinks were already in full flow so we decided to pop over the road for a quick bite, leaving Elliot in the capable hands of Adam, Will and Chris. Little did we know that they would destroy him. Long story short, 15 beers in we carried Elliot home where both himself and Kemp called it a night. Not I being the man that I am. I walked outside only to find a group of girls sitting with some drinks on the poolside. The rest is history.
A little about Fiji itself: the country itself seems quite poor but everyone is very humble and helpful. The people love to have banter with us, probably because most of the women find us completely hilarious to look at. The heat is absolutely great, not too hot nor too cold but you wouldn't want to be stuck in the sun for too long, as you'd burn up. There's just something about Fiji that makes me find it one of the most beautiful countries I've been to. We are now on a completely different time scale from the rest of the world, its called Fiji time where everything happens in sloooowww motion. I'd say we are loving the relaxation, with Elliot and Kemp having worked for 10 weeks in Bisley and myself skiing all the time: its great to kick back on the beach and relax. The hostel we're staying at has something like 30 beds in it but I don't really see it as an issue to due having our own sort of private area of which one person joins and usually leaves by the next day. There are also private suites but we're traveling of course. More to come on Fiji which of course will be posted in Fiji time.
Well I thought I'd add this before I posted. Yesterday we were forced into an early departure from the Smugglers Cove resort in Nadi. The native fire dancers have grown a strong dislike to our "stealing" of their women and, luckily for us, we were warned of an appending attack by a supporter of team RGS travelers. I'd say we were packed and gone in around 20 minutes and fled to another hostel down the road named Nomads which is pretty sick as we have a 6 person dorm for the 3 of us compared with a 30 man full sweaty dorm with no air con. Last night we went into town with some girl because it was her 22nd and had a massive rave! Probably the most disappointing moment of my travels so far- lost a bolt off to a huge Fijian man. Gutted. Hope all is well at home!!
