Today I woke up feeling revitalised and refreshed after a good long sleep, a cooked breakfast and an ice cold glass of apple juice, blissful way to start the morning!
Arnold, his friend Brian and I headed to site this afternoon, of course there have been no developments since we went last week. There were around 7 workers yesterday, all sat around doing nothing. They claim to be specialists, I'm no builder, but I can clearly see that they are no specialists..... They arrive in shorts, tshirts and flip flops... If that isn't hazardous on a building site, then I don't know what is. There was a woman on site today providing the workers with food. She soon darted off once we arrived though. We dropped off some items to them and left them to supposedly get on with their work. Arnold is going to return first thing tomorrow morning!
We went to go go karting after but unfortunately it had closed, bit gutted, I was hoping to beat the boys.... Optimism is where it's at right?! We went for late lunch instead at a local restaurant called triple 7, it was quite nice there, Brian has been there several times. We saw one of his dad's friends there who bought us all a round of drinks which was very sweet of him! Brian had goat stomach soup for lunch, I couldn't look at what he was eating, it didn't look very appealing at all, but I enjoyed my chicken and Arnold enjoyed his steak.
Arnold and Brian went to play football and so I sat on the sideline with some chocolate playing sudoku which was perfect for me! Some of the guys that play football are insanely good, and they wear no shoes either, unbelievable when you think of it!
Shortly after football Arnold and I met his Auntie Bahati for dinner. Arnold lived with his Auntie Bahati in the UK. We had a lovely dinner, it was nice to catch up and have some proper time to speak to her, she is trained as a counsellor and it was very interesting to hear of the work and development projects that she is involved in here in Tanzania.
Last minute packing tonight for Kilimanjaro.... My walking boots have gone walk abouts and so we are going to ring the dada first thing to try and find them. No idea where they have gone, they were in the room a few days ago! Tomorrow I fly to Kilimanjaro and have to take a shuttle bus to Arusha where I will meet the tour guide and stay at his lodge with the other people in my walking group. Arnold is no longer climbing Kilimanjaro with me as he has to go to South Africa on business, something to do with the house, and so I am braving it and going alone. I am looking forward to meeting the people in my group and making new friends. I shall return from Kilimanjaro next Tuesday evening. The climb will take 6 days. I am really hopeful that I will make it to the top! I have a level of worry that altitude sickness may get to me, but I'm going to take it slow, drink plenty of water and make sure that I am energised properly. There's no way of telling whether I will get it or not, just have to hope for the best, so fingers crossed!
Sorry for such a brief, slightly rushed blog, I'm about to leave for the airport. The photo today is from the weekend in Zanzibar at the Rock Restaurant.
Take care, I shall update you all next week... With good news, I hope. Remember optimism is everything right?!
