This morning Rich and I got woken up to breakfast in bed by Arnold. We said that it should have been the other way around considerin it is Arnold's 21st Birthday today. We had a full fry up, with English beans too! Not the African ones. It was definitely a good start to the day.
There was only a few hours until Rich would have to depart for the airport and so we decided to stay in bed and watch The Hunger Games. It was the second one, and was so much better than the first one! Much to Rich and Arnold's surprise, I stayed awake throughout the whole film!
Lunch was lovely yet again, the chef prepared a range of meats, rice, potatoes & vegetables. Time was of the essence and so we all seemed to eat our food pretty fast. Before we departed for the airport there was an influx of cameras and pictures. Everybody wanted to be in the photo so there was a lot of swapping around between who took the photos. My jaw was aching from all of the smiliing!
The traffic towards the airport wasn't too bad for once and we got Rich there in plenty of time for his flight. Say goodbye was quite sad, its gping to be strange without him here. Arnold filmed him walking away and through the airport doors, Suzi, Auntie Bahati and I thought they may shed a tear, but they didn't.
We made a pit stop by Arnold's Mums work where a few of Arnold's family had congregated. His auntie had made him a lovely birthday cake, a football, his favourite thing to do. We a'll sang Happy Birthday to him. They add "How old are you now" on to the Happy Birthday song. Arnold cut the cake, he then cut the cake into small pieces and put cocktail sticks in them. He then fed pieces of cake to each person, starting with his parents. A traditional thing that they do in Africa. It was very strange at first but quite a nice process and a chance for Arnold to briefly speak to esch person. It was another great experience that has occurred through my weeks here in Tanzania.
My trip so far has been truly fantastic and better than I thought it could ever be. I've slowly adapted to the hakuna matata way of living although it would not be durable at home. I really love this place. It's a place where you can truly be yourself , feel welcomed and comfortable. Nothing is too much hassle for anyone here and Arnold's family are fantastic hosts, better than fantastic actually!
In the evening we went to Sea Cliff for dinner with Arnold's parents, aunts and cousins. It was a lovely restaurant. The food was also really nice. I was going to have veal then Suzi pointed out that they had fish and chips, so I went for that. It was almost as good as home! Pretty good actually. I was rather impressed.
Arnold cut another cake this evening. Although he didn't feed everyone, just handed out slices. He gave a short speech about how thankful he is for his family and how his parents guidance has helped him be the person he is today.
Josh and Isaac joined us for cake before heading out for a few drinks to celebrate Arnold's Birthday. We had a few drinks in Megangas and then headed to Elements. Elements was really busy. It was a very chilled evening, a few social drinks and a lot of conversing. We heard from Rich who said that he had landed in Qatar, so that was good to hear! We didn't head to bed too late as Arnold and I are heading to Zanzibar tomorrow for the weekend.
