Today is gorgeous, and I want to take some photos whilst the gardens are at their peak around a village I pass every day on the train - bronxville. It is bigger than scarsdale, and has a similar selection of expensive homewares, boutiques, jewellers and more formal restaurants and delis. The village is meticulously maintained, the gardens well groomed and the public buildings restored. I'm most excited about the small cinema in the village, but the selection of movies at any given time is limited. It's proving alot harder to see movies here than I thought.
I walk for a while in the surrounding streets and take photos of the beautiful houses. They are old, multilevel, made of wood or stone with attic windows, with the quintessential swing hanging from the old tree in the front yard. There are the Tudor style buildings, but more with a Georgian influence with the pillars and balconies.
I stop for lunch in one of the restaurants that is popular with the locals. Being such a nice day, a lunchtime cocktail seems appropriate, and the bar makes a mean peach spritzer. This goes well with a simple steak with bearnaise sauce.
After lunch, a little more shopping - I resist a nice handbag, a few more photos of more beautiful backstreets, I walk the Bronx river pathway. It is beautiful and peaceful, I see birds I don't recognise, geese, a rabbit and a black squirrel. The walkway is so lush and green, and is crossed occasionally by bridges. It's nice to see the park heavily used by exercises, mothers and people just enjoying some peace in nature. I finish my walk at tuckahoe (where the other half live!!). A really nice local day that I would never have experienced if I did not live in scarsdale.
