Hello all!
We have all now arrived back in Playa Colorada after only 2 weeks in Caripe rather than 3. Our volunteer work in the first week was rather slow off the ground, so we decided that we would spend the third week back in Playa, working on a project for the local community. The second week in Caripe went well however as we were working on developing a nursery in the hills of the National Park. Caripe suffers frequently from forest fires so new trees are constantly needed. We all got very fit lugging all our equpment up the mountain each morning, but we also got to practise our Spanish with the national park workers and firemen who accompanied us. One morning we shadowed park rangers on the tours they gave around the park and the enormous cave which is its main attraction which was a little scary but really worth it! We also all got tshirts to commemorate the project, so now we are a very coordinated bunch of volunteers!
It wasn't all work however, as we found time to go rock climbing (on a genuine cliff face!) and climb the tallest mountain in Monagas state. The girls absolutely rocked (pardon the pun) the climbing, with six girls making it to a little cave at the top of the wall, and only one boy out of both groups! Jesse, Joe, Pip and I also fitted in another walk to a waterfall, whic was beautiful but so cold my brain went on holiday when i jumped in!
Hoping all is well at home
