Hola todos,
Apologies for my very lax blog-keeping, but we've had an odd few weeks, either ridiculously busy or ridiculously not-busy, but we're now in Caripe so it's time to start again.
Our last week in Playa Colorada helping out at the kids' club there was great. It was really satisfying to see how much the children enjoyed the games, sports, arts and crafts we put on; becasue school finishes so early here there's really nothing for them to do in the afternoons apart from hang around in the streets. We also ran English classes in the evenings as a group, and the dedication of the people who came was just amazing - they were all so desperate to learn English and so hardworking. It was also a great demonstration of how far our Spanish has come along in five weeks, that we were able to hold a lesson in Spanish as well as English. At this point I should probably say that I have loads of great pictures from Playa Colorada which I attempted to put up last week, but was cruelly defeated by the internet cafe in Puerto la Cruz. I shall have another try here in Caripe, the gorgeous little town in the mountains which we reached this morning.
The drive took about 3 hours and took us through absolutely gorgeous countryside, with little villages and steep mountains covered in blossoming trees - it looked strangely like Surrey in spring actually! The lodge where we are staying is like a maze, with terraces and corridors leading to different rooms everywhere you turn. Best of all, our rooms have mattresses so we get a little break from sleeping in hammocks, which will be nice! Our aim here is to help the National Park with clean-up operations and general park maintenance, as well as continuing with our Spanish lessons and having a good party when Carnival time comes along.
We will be here for three weeks and then after that we'll be hitting la Gran Sabanna. Exciting times!
Write again soon, love to all
