Greetings from Peru! I'm in a whole new country since last time I updated this! I spent my last few days in Ecuador in Puerto Lopez and Montanita with a Swedish girl. We went to the most beautiful beach in Puerto Lopez, Los Frailes, part of the Manchalilla National Park. I'll put some photos up when I find a better internet place! Montanita was a really cool place, a surfer party town, I've decided I want to live there! I only got to spend one night there unfortunately as I'd spent longer than planned in all the other places so ran out of time! On Tuesday I got the bus to Guayaquil, the largest port in Ecuador. I found it weird being in a big city and didn't like it much! I'd also heard it wasn't that safe so I didn't fancy walking around much. I went on a hunt for a place to change some dollars in to Peruvian soles and I was so careful to have all my money hidden........but Ecuador being Ecuador I ended up having to change it with some random woman in the middle of the street! She was the "cambio de dinero" I had been directed to by the bank!! Luckily the money wasn't fake but I think I got a pretty crappy exchange rate. I had to spend the night in Guayaquil and on Wednesday morning I set off on my 26 HOUR bus trip to Lima! (26 hours Ecuadorian time, it actually took 28!!). The journey wasn't actually too bad, the bus was really comfy, I managed to sleep and we got 3 "meals"....not the best cuisine I've ever tasted! There were a few worrying moments on the journey, especially when the bus broke down, and when it randomly decided to stop on the edge of a cliff with steep sand dunes one side and a sheer drop to the sea on the other! We were sat upstairs on the bus too and it did sway from side to side at times!! But on the whole the journey and the border crossing were fine, and I saw a lot of nice Peruvian desert on the way! I arrived in Lima on Thursday afternoon and stayed at a really cool hostel with loads of people. Lima was full of police because it was the APEC - lots of world leaders were there including Bush. On Friday I met up with Caroline who I was living with in Tena as she happened to be in Lima too, so that was really nice catching up with her. And in the evening my sis arrived! This morning we flew to Cusco (luckily after arriving safely in Lima airport despite the taxi driver reading his newspaper at the wheel!!) and I'm now taking it easy in an internet cafe getting used to the altitude before we set off on the Inca Trail on Monday, eek!xx
