Si Phan Don, aka 4000 islands, is the southern-most point of Laos where the Mekong river breaks into pieces leaving a bunch of islands in between. Don Det is the one packpackers prefer. I spent 4 nights there and loved every minute of it!
Those 4 days consisted of a lot of swimming, floating around in a tube and swimming in between islands, laying in a hammock, reading, eating very very well (in this most amazing Indian restaurant), having campfires on the beach, playing cards at the reggae bar, swimming again.. And that's what life's ife is all about. I met a bunch of Germans and hung out with them mostly. So damn relaxing. And Don Det has a really great chilled athmosphere, it's kicking Vang Vieng's ass! If you ask me, at least.
After laying around doing nothing for 3 days I decided to see some "sights". I rented a bicycle and went to Don Khon, the main island.Spent some time swimming again, then got invited to go see the huge waterfall. Biggest one is Asia, I thnk? Here if you go tubing too far, you'll actually end up in the waterfall. Apparently that doesn't only happen in movies:D On the way we saw some riverdolphins too, there's still 18 of them here. They were quite far off though.
Next morning, after all my new-made friends had already left, I finally left the island too for Hue, Vietnam. It didn't go too smoothly though:D
