It's almost Christmas already, can't believe it!
For my last day in Bukittinggi (sunday), I had a really lovely time with Mrs. Hayati's family. It was so difficult to leave them!
I took a bus to Lake Toba at 5pm, but of course it was a standard 2 hours late. I really felt sick on the way which is very uncommon for me, but I think it was because i accidently ate meat the night before:S And also the ride was unbelievably bumpy and the road twisting to both directions the whole way. Very unpleasant. But in the end it took only 12+ hours, I know that in the worst case it can take over 20.
I met a Swiss guy Daryl in the bus and he had the same kind of plan for the rest of the trip in Indonesia (Toba-Medan-Bukit Lawang-Berastagi) so we decided to go together. lake Toba is so stunnig! It's the biggest volcanic lake in the world and the island in it is abut the size of Singapore. We're staying on the island:) Yesterday we rented a motorbike to go around the island, had some pretty nice views. We probably took the wrong road somewhere and went through the island in the halfway. The roads were unbelievably bad, took such a long time to get back... We had a little accident too, got my knee and my palm open. Nothing major though since the speed was pretty close to zero.
On the was we ran into a wedding party, and were invited to join! It was really cool, the whole village had gathered there. It was the area's original people, the Bataks. They used to be cannibals I hear. It was a christian wedding, but sooo different from the western style! I gotta post pictures later:)
Today it's been all about chilling next to the beautiful lake, swimming, getting sunburned:P So perfect to have a omrning swim in the lake<3 Tomorrow Daryl and I will hit Medan and meet some couchsurfers there to celebrate christmas with:)
