The train from Prague to Munich took us the whole day. We got to Prague around 4 and found the Eurohostel to stay at. We had heard that the castle from the Disney movies was only about 2 hours away by train, so we decided we wanted to go see it. We left around 6 and got to Fusen (the city with the castle) around 8. The train we had to take to get home left at 9, so it gave us about one hour to go see it. Unfortunately, we couldn't go up to the castle because it was closed off to cars and would have taken too long to walk there, but we got to see it, and it still looked straight off of Disney . The city was surrounded by mountains and it was snowing, plus the castle was up in the mountains so none of it really looked real at all! But it was cool to see and we had some extra time so I am glad we went. Once we got back into Munich, we pretty much just went to bed. We stopped and experienced our first kebab, which was amazing, and then went to bed! Our plan was to wake up the next morning and go on a bike tour, but of course, it was snowing
So instead, we took our first ever bus tour. We had been wanting to try one in some city because we always see them, so it seemed like the perfect opportunity! It was definitely not as good as walking tours, because you don't really hear any history or details of what you're looking at, but it wasn't too bad and we stayed semi-warm so that was nice! We got to the glockenspiel right when it was about to turn 12, so we got to hear the music and watch all of the little people dance, which was fun. I had heard that you need to make sure you see it, so we stayed for the whole 15 minutes of it going off! For lunch, we went to the Hoferauhaus. Greg and Eric were determined that they were going to steal the liter beer mugs, so the whole lunch they planned out their scheme. They actually did make it out with 2 mugs, but about 5 blocks away, Greg realized he had forgotten his camera at our table! Caitlin and I thought it was hilarious but the boys weren't as amused. He went back and got it, and surprisingly, no one said anything to him about the mugs! But it was pretty funny.
After lunch, we got back onto the tour bus and went to the palace, which was enormous! And we also went to Olympia park where the 72 Olympics were, the opera house, the BMW headquarters, siegestor and lots of parks and gardens.I really liked Olympic park and the boys definitely did because Greg is obsessed with Prefontaine and that is the track he ran on. But Munich was really pretty in general. It would have been nice to walk around the city, but we were just happy we got to see the things we did since the weather was so bad. We got back from the tour around and Caitlin and I went to go souvenir shopping until our train left for Venice.
I enjoyed Munich. It wasn't one of my favorite places, probably because the weather was so crappy, but we still managed to have fun. I liked seeing the Cinderella castle a lot and Olympic park. But we definitely managed to enjoy ourselves!
