We took an overnight train to Venice from Munich and got into Venice around 7 am. There was absolutely no cars around-only boats! We even had to take a boat to our hostel! We stayed at The Best B&B in Venice, and I am not sure I necessarily agree with the name, but whatever. The boat ride to our hostel was beautiful! There was boat traffic, boat police, boat taxis, and then just boats everywhere! So many doors just went straight into the water it was crazy! But once we got to our hostel, we took showers and got ready to go walk around.
Venice was absolutely beautiful! And probably the most beautiful city I had seen up to this point! There were canals everywhere with crystal blue water, vendors on the streets, old buildings, streets that would just end in the canals, it was amazing! I have never seen any place like it! The first thing we did was take a gondola ride. It was about 35 minutes or so but was one of my favorite things I have done since I have been over here! Some of the gondolas that passed us were playing the accordion and singing Italian songs. If we weren't with Greg and Eric, it had potential to be romantic. But we had a lot of fun. Our boat took us past Casanova's house, Marco Polo's house, Mozart's house from when he lived there for a summer and a lot of different piazzas. It was awesome! I loved it! After our gondola, we walked to San Marco plaza, which is just mainly a board walk along the ocean filled with souvenir vendors and restaurants. Of course, when we went to eat lunch I chose pizza. After the pizza I ate in Sicily, there was no way I wasn't getting it again! And again, it was amazing. But after lunch, we really just walked around the city. We went inside the cathedral and that was beautiful too. The boys decided they were only eating gelato while in Italy, so we stopped at a few gelato places for them to get their fill. But that night, we went to an orchestra. All of the people were dressed in Victorian clothes. It was a lot of fun and definitely something different to do. But after the orchestra we went back to our hostel and packed for Rome!
Venice is one of my favorite cities! I loved it! It was so unique from any other place I have been! The canals were beautiful! Our hostel was right next to a fish market and so both mornings, people were just everywhere throwing fish (mom wouldn't have liked it) but it was definitely something we hadn't seen yet! We also had beautiful weather so that helped I am sure! But I loved Venice and if I went back to Italy, I would make sure to stop there again
