Bungy day -
Got up about 10.30 and we were being picked up at 11.45 for the bungy. Kat still said she was doing it so we headed to check in. There were about 8 people from our bus doing it, after we checked in we got in the bus for the 40min journey to the site. At this stage I wasn't nervous as I kept remembering how nervous I was before the skydive and how much I enjoyed it!!
The journey was quite scary in itself, up a mountain with not much room between the bus and the edge. We got to the site and put our harnesses on I was still ok because Ihadnt seen the actual jump part yet but then we walked out and oh my God I was petrified, we walked over to a viewing platform to watch other people.
The place you jump from is a pod suspended over a massive gorge, you have to get a cable car ride to the pod. The actual jump is 134 meters!! We got in the cable car 6 at a time and went over to the pod. I was ok again now because people were coming up saying how great it was then came my turn!! I sat in a chair while he attached the bungy to my feet then I had to walk to the edge. I had told myself to jump straight away as I thought if I didn't then I wouldnt do it, so when I was at the edge I looked up at the sky and not down the instructor counted down from 3 and I dont know where it came from but I managed to jump.
The first 3 seconds were awful, I was so scared I didn't even scream and I had my eyes closed and just felt like I was falling very fast (which I was) after about 3 seconds I opened my eyes and saw the ground coming up very quickly then got to the end and bounced back up. When I bounced down again it was an amazing feeling, I think because I knew I was still alive!! I was flying.
After the second bounce I pulled the bit on my leg so I went into the upright position, we had been told to do this as the jump is so high it takes a few minutes to winch you back up and obviousley it is a lot easier if you are upright!! Going up was fine but when I got to the top and they unatached me, my whole body was shaking!!!
I can't believe I actually did it but I am so glad I did it was an amazing feeling after the first few seconds. I guess even the being scared is part of it though as it makes you so happy when you have done it, I think after that I can do anything!! Don't think I will do it again soon though as my heart is still beating faster 4 hrs later!!
It was then Kats turn to go, she got in the chair and they attached her legs, she was petrified she told the instructor she didn't think the harness was tight enough and made him check when she got out of the chair she said she couldn't do it but then made her way to the edge then jumped, I was quite shocked she did it as she never had any intention of doing it but she did.
She came up the same as me, her body shaking. We both bought the dvd and pictures to prove we actually did it.
In the evening we just had a quiet one as we are doing a trip to Milford Sounds tommorrow and have to leave at 6.45am!!
