Not feeling too hungover but shattered we headed down for the buffet breakfast, where I ran into Hannah, Chloe and Eleanor who had just arrived, we all had a quick chat over breakfast before Victoria and I packed and checked out waiting for our pick up. Sat on the steps of the hostel, we said goodbye to Adam and Tom as Beatrice and Alice had already left for Hue. Our pick up arrives and transfer onto the coach. The scenery to Hue is just as beautiful as the rest of Vietnam, driving through mountains and with lush green paddy fields everywhere. I definitely love this country.
We arrived at Hue and again, luckily a few minutes’ walk to our hostel – Hue Backpackers. Once checked in we more or less did nothing feeling shattered from the night before and had some food at the hostel before meeting up with Alice and Beatrice for a girly night at the cinema to see Insurgents. A good way to spend the night that didn’t involve alcohol.
Realising I was on a deadline to get to Hanoi for my flight to Hong Kong, I only had two nights in Hue and one full day. So the following day, after breakfast Victoria, Alice, Beatrice and I had a morning of sightseeing at the Imperial Palace, which is a walled fortress and palace of the former imperial capital of Vietnam. The grounds of this palace are pretty and nice for a stroll around for an hour or two. Getting very hot in the midday sun we found a Vietnamese vegetarian restaurant for dinner where the staff couldn’t seem to decide whether they wanted to be open or not. But the food was fresh and tasty, before spending the afternoon in a café abusing their wifi and making the most of the tasty desserts and refreshing cold ‘italian iced’ drinks.
That evening we had arranged to meet up with Adam and Tom who had arrived at my hostel for the last night we would see each other altogether. We also adopted Alex into our little group and sat in the hostel bar making the most of the happy hour, which was followed by ladies night…worryingly and maybe because we had all had a few drinks by this point, we decided to dress Alex and Tom up in a couple of my dresses to let the ladies night offers apply to them. Disturbing!!!! But it worked and they got cheaper drinks for making an effort. Needless to say, the night got messy and once the hostel bar shut we went down the road to another bar until kick out time. It was a great last night with a good group of people.
The next morning, we all congregated in the hostel bar area for breakfast and to nurse our hangovers together and to top it off it was pouring with rain outside. Eventually, Alex and I had to go for a walk to help clear the head and get a bit of fresh area to clear the hangovers. But after 40minutes the rain got too much so we headed back for us all to get some food at the hostel. We all spent most of the afternoon moping about dozing in the hostel’s bar before it was time for me to say goodbye to everyone as there bus arrived to take them elsewhere in Vietnam and for me to head to my bus stop to get my night bus to Hanoi. Thank god the hangover had cleared by this time and I was on my way to the last stop in Vietnam. Randomly, at one of the toilet/snack stops I jumped off the bus to find Alex, Tom, Adam, Beatrice and Alice sat there. Their bus was due to leave not long after I arrived so again we did all the final goodbyes but this time for good. And time for the final few hours of my journey to Hanoi.
