We are now in the Hue after spending two days in Hoi An.
Hoi An was a lovely town, a little fishing place with lanterns everywhere which looked especially pretty at night when they were all lit up. It had a very different atmosphere to a lot of the other places we've visited, very quiet in comparison and laid-back. The streets were dead by 10pm!
This town is famous for its tailor shops, which is not surprising as they are absolutely everywhere! Most of us succumbed a little to having something made especially for us (who wouldn't?!), some more than others I must add! I bought a pair of shorts and a lovely summer dress, though the dress is white and I don't dare to wear it because I'll probably never wash it properly and it will get dirty in 5 mins! Always the way with travelling.
We had some lovely meals out in Hoi An and plenty of cheap cocktails last night where we got our own 'bed' to sit on in a bar because there were so many of us. It would be very easy to get used to how cheap everything is here, and the Western world will probably come as even more of a culture shock than Asia!
This morning we left Hoi An and took a 5-hour bus journey over some mountain roads- beautiful view for those who weren't scared of heights! Ended up sleeping a fair bit on the journey though. It's surprising how a few weeks travelling can make you able to sleep anywhere you get the chance! We stopped off at the marble mountain, which was really stunning and had caves to climb through. I ended up getting stuck in the middle of a huge Vietnamese group, and a granny about half my size took pity on me and helped me up a bit of the climb! Definitely something not quite fitting in that...
We're staying in the Tigon Hotel at the minute which is very nice but quite noisy because apparently it's a Vietnamese celebration day, and we have another sleeper train tomorrow to take us to Halong Bay. Have really been looking forward to this one so I hope it lives up to expectations :)
