We are in a whole new country again! This time it's Laos :)
We left Hanoi on Thursday evening to embark on a 21-hour bus journey to Vientiene, the capital of Laos. The bus was definitely quite an experience! It was a sleeper bus with very odd seats which I can only describe as half aeroplane chair, half glove-box, where you put your feet with very bent legs. The woman telling everyone where to sit was incredibly scary, moving people around at will whilst shreaking in Vietnamese. The bus was packed with bags which wouldn't fit underneath due to far too much transportation of everything you can imagine from the locals. They even filled the toilet with boxes, a really wise move on such a long journey!!
Anyway, we survived, crossed the border in one piece and continued to Vientiene. It took 13 hours to the border and another 8 afterwards, as the driver stopped for 2 hours for a leisurely breakfast! I would definitely recommend the 2nd part of the journey though, Laos is absolutely stunning, full of mountainous, winding roads and beautiful rivers and scenery.
We managed to bump into the rest of the group upon arrival in Vientiene, so we went out for dinner with them by the river and had a much needed early night! Today we travelled for 4 hours to Vang Vieng, where we are now. It is a really lovely, quiet little town. We had our lunch overlooking the river, mountains and some bungalows on stilts, which there will be a picture of soon! It's insanely quiet and laid back compared to Hanoi, and the people are very friendly. Could definitely get used to Laos.
