Hi from Nashville!
So it's been a few days since I last posted and I just have to say...Nashville is AWESOME!! I am in love with the place and can't believe we leave in 2 days!!! :(
Friday we went to the country music hall of fame and spent ages there which was really good! Except it stops in the 90's so none of my fave singers where actually in but it was still really interesting and good to learn about the roots of country a bit more! I managed to refrain from buying much in the gift shop and alas, still no Brad Paisley poster :( After that we walked down the road to see all the stars on the walk of stars which didn't take long because it seems to be pretty tiny! I think we just didn't find half of them though haha. After our tourist morning we decided to go to Walmart to get some groceries (how American) and also to look for a suitcase for me because I'm not fitting everything so well anymore! I haven't even bought much it's just clothes I bought from camp that are chunky! The cases were expensive so I didn't end up getting it that day but I did buy 6 cd's for only 30 quid! Impressed!
Yesterday we went on the General Jackson showboat down the Cumberland River, it was an interesting experience...it was 2 hours long and for the first hour we couldn't see anyone else on our deck and were really confused, we then realised there was a buffet we could have had...idiots!! There was also a live show with a really good fiddle player which made up for it at least! After that I went and finally bought my case, I managed to haggle the price from $40 to $28 which I was happy about! In the night we went to meet up with my friend from camp who goes to college here in Nashville. He took us to the bar where he used to work for dinner and then we went back to his friend's flat for a bit, it's the first american house I've ever actually been in I realised! We got back about 12:30am and had to get up this morning at about 7am so that wasn't too fun but we'll survive!
Today we decided to go to the science discovery centre except we forgot it was sunday...we arrived 2 and a half hours before it opened, oh dear! So we went to the Ryman Auditorium instead where the Grand Ole Opry used to be. I got my photo taken on the stage it was awesome! We then went back to the science museum and spent 2 and a half hours there because it's the best science museum I've been too it was so much fun! We must have taken about 100 photos haha. Afterwards we went back to broadway for some lunch and to watch a live band. We ended up in The Stage which is one of the most famous ones in Nashville and there was a guy and his band on stage. He was talking about how much he loved The Beatles so when he found out I was from Liverpool he made us both come up on stage and he sang a Beatles song to us, it was actually really funny. He was awesome on guitar too, he so models himself on Brad Paisley and he even did a Brad song for me which was exciting! At the end he came over and invited us to come back tomorrow night to get some food and a drink there, I love that american's are so excited by the fact we're English! There was also a 15 year old girl there who got up and sang Miranda Lambert's Gunpowder and Lead (my dad will know this), she was amazing!! She had such good stage presence too for someone so young!
Tomorrow my friend from camp has offered to take us to Franklin which is a town about 10 minutes drive from Nashville which is meant to be really beautiful. After that he said he has some Nashville spots he wants to take us too like a hill which gives the best views of Nashville apparently! Then in the night we're planning on meeting up with our country singing friend in The Stage haha. At some point we have to pack too eek! Anyway I'd better go, someone is waiting to use the computer!
Speak to you all soon!
