I am Soooo far behind, I don't even know where to start, but here goes nothing :o)
From Hue I went to Hoi An by bus, it was still recovering from the flood so we didn't do to much there... Hoi An is supposed to be one of the most beautiful places in Vietnam, maybe I'll go there again another time to get the full effect. Lots of people shopped, they tailor all the clothing to you, and they even suckered me into buying a skirt. Before I knew it they had me measured and a couple hours later it was ready for pick up! Fits good, it's pretty and it was cheap, perfect! :o)
I flew from Hoi An to Ho Chi Ming/Saigon City, for me it was just another city, definitely more updated than Northern Vietnam/Hanoi. More cars but the same crazy hustle bustle. More stores that are like stores and not just on the side walk ;oP
Cu Chi Tunnels (just outside Saigon) were incredible! When they said that they'd built tunnels under the ground to defeat the French I had no idea the scale and how elaborate. 3 stories under ground, kitchens, water wells 60 meters deep, 250 KM's of tunnels, they were under the enemy, amazing! The 1st leg of my trip was over, e had our final dinner and I said good-bye to my roomy Leslie, I'm to miss her & her blow dryer, she was great! Just her and Bob left to go their own way, the remaining 6 of us were on to Cambodia!
The next day I met my new tour guide, Rath, a born and raised Cambodian & the 6 other new people to join us. Everyone is fantastic and we now have a very dynamic group, people from all over the place and all ages :o)
A 8 hour bus ride from Saigon/Ho Chi Ming I found myself in Chau Doc, a fishing village near the border of Vietnam & Cambodia. It was a long journey but I really liked all the villages, animals and people we saw along the way, I would have liked to stop a 100 times to take pictures but then we wouldn't have ever gotten there. Chau Doc was just ok, the hotel was by far the worst I've ever stayed in, didn't feel that safe there and people weren't as friendly... We had dinner in a floating restaurant that was attached to the hotel, that was nice :o) One sleep away from Cambodia, early start and a 6 hour boat ride to the Cambodia Border.
To be continued...
