Early start for the 12hr bus trip down to Airlie Beach- Very pleasant bus trip, we saw 3 films and I bumped into Hannah from Lymm which was a nice surprise. She was off to Brisbane to work so we have arranged to meet up when she gets to Sydney over New Year. Checked into our 8 man dorm and met our new roomies- Graeme, James and Mark from Blackpool, Scott for Landan and an Irish couple. Me and Abs were ready to hit the sack but they were all drinking away so it would have been rude not to accept. Had a really good night with them and it all ended in a pie shop- which is THE best pie shop ever!!!! I had 2 they were soooo tasty. The next few days we spent chilling at the Lagoon and going out in the evening. Finally booked ourselves onto a boat trip around the Whitsunday’s on the Clipper boat, which is the biggest party boat in Airlie with a crew of 7 and up to 57 guests. We jumped on board with our boxes of goon in tow at 2ish and set sail into the big black rain clouds!!!! We stayed up on deck for as long as we could but soon got defeated by the rain and wind : ( With nothing else to do at 5 o’clock we started the drinking games, which was very entertaining on a rocky boat!!! And a great way to meet everyone. Tea was dished up which was a welcome break as we were all starting to feel quite drunk. Silence fell as we shovelled the yummy fish, mash potato and salad down. It was like feeding time at the zoo! The rain had stopped by the time we had finished our food so a few of us headed out to the Jacuzzi, which was freezing!!!! After a nice warm shower the drinking games continued on into the night.
The next day was not pretty!!!! There were a lot of people fighting for the toilets. It was quite funny to watch. We were dropped off by speed boat to Whiteheaven beach. Which has been voted the 2nd most beautiful beach of all time! And I can see why- the sand was so white that it was actually cold as it reflected the sun off it. It felt like I was walking through flour- it was heaven. The sea was clear turquoise and so warm. The captain was insistent that we wore these horrible stinger suits which we were going to ignore until I stepped into the water and saw a sting ray floating happily by in the shallow water!!! I ran straight back out and made my stinger suit my new best friend! When we got deeper into the water we were surrounded by reef sharks and loads of sting ray. The crew had us doing all kind of cheesy photo shoots on the beach and we ended by doing a human pyramid, which ended up as a pile on! Later that afternoon we got to go scuba diving. It was fantastic and probably the best open water dive i have done so far! the coral was fantastic and there were so many different kinds of fish which swam so close to us. i got the fright of my life when a HUGE fish came swimming towards me with his mouth wide open show his lovely sharp teeth little did i know it was Elvis the friendly fish who we could feed and cuddle- it was great he swam around with us for ages! Once back on the boat the slide came out from the side and we flung ourselves down into the sea. Also enjoyed a little jumping of the side of the boat and finished off in the nice warm hot tub. That evening we got back involved with the drinking games and enjoyed a show from a group of dolphins passing by the boat. The next day it was time to head back to Airlie Beach for Halloween celebrations!!!
