Landed in Cairns early morning and found us the cheapest hostel we could (much more expensive than Asia!!!) the best we found was a three man dorm for $21 a night. The place was really nice and had a little swimming pool. The beds were amazing and they even had proper duvets!!!! o happy days. The staff were a really good laugh and helped us book our days trips. The first trip was on the skyrail and Kuranda Scenic Railway. We saw some amazing views from the skyrail, it was so high up you could see for miles to the coast and across the rain forest. We passed over Barron Falls which is a huge water fall. The skyrail stopped every so often for us to get out and have a look on the viewing platforms. Lots of pics were taken- there on FB. Still having trouble uploading to the blog. The waterfall was beautiful and we got to see it from the other side when we traveled on the Koranda train. Once we reached the top (Kuranda village) we had an hour or so to wonder round and look at the aboriginal markets. The trip back down on the train was brilliant too and got to see a lot more of the rain forest.
The following day we jumped aboard Uncle Brians fun, falls and forest trip to Atherton Tableland. This was the best trip i have ever been on!!!!!!!!!!!!! i had sooooooo much fun, my jaw was hurting at the end of the day! We were picked up by Cousin Rohan and welcomed aboard Gus the Wonder bus! we were all a big happy family now and were all cousins. The trip started with a 45min ride to Devils creak. On the way Cousin Rohan told us all about Gus the wonder bus's friendship with Bruce (the highway) and Vanessa (the milk truck) he also told us some info about the mountains we passed but his other stories were far more entertaining!!! We had a walk down to devils creak which has a dreamtime story attached to it. Rohan got morning tea set up and i managed to eat 3 amazing chocolate/coconut cakes!!! Felt a little sick after and was quite glad to learn we were heading for a swim- burn off those calories! The next stop was the waterfalls. I had so much fun here- the rocks around the waterfall had been smoothed down by the water so we were able to slide down the side into the pool at the bottom. Rohan demonstrated some interesting ways of sliding down and then we all hit the rocks. We and Abs decided to go down together, however i went backwards and she went forwards- it end in a heap at the bottom!!! very funny pictures. After messing around in the pool for a bit we dried off and jump back on to Guss. It was now time to drive off for some lunch. On the trip we played a game- wheres wally?!? this game involved us putting a match stick in our mouths and passing a polo mint from one match stick to another- i found it quite hard to keep a straight face, esp when two of the guys had to pass to each other and we were stuck in a traffic jam- The car behind gave us some very funny looks! Lunch was amazing and yet again i over faced my self with two portions of chocolate cake and ice cream (didn't when i would get my next descent meal!) The final waterfall of the day was where Peter Andre filmed mysterious girl and the Timoteo adverts are filmed so there were some very entertaining re makes of the video going on. The water was freezing!!!! but managed to make it out to the waterfall and got some good pics. The day ended with a bit of Platypus spotting and we succeeded in finding one playing around in the water eating away. The trip back to Cairns was very noisy as we did a bit of karaoke. It was very emotional saying good bye to Cousin Rohan and Guss the wonder bus but big hugs were exchanged.
