The past few days have pretty much been the most hectic days of my life. Ive pretty mcuh done the same amount of stuff and seen the same amount of places in the past 4 days that most normal people visiting oz would do in about 2 weeks.
So we left Rainbow beach on Thursday morning (I think!) and got ourselves on the bus down to Noosa which only took a few hours. Arrived in Noosa and got to our hostel which was actually in Noosaville (closer to the coast than Noosa Heads - where most people stay). At first impression, our hostel looked really nice - nice outdoor socialising area with a pool (a bath really - it was about 6ft by 6 ft), internet access, all dorms were only for 4 people and there were two 4 peopl dorms to each unit. each unit shared a bathroom and kitchen. so pretty sweet - kind like a flat. Only problem was that the staff used our unit as an access route to their dorms (instead of walking an extra 20 seconds around the building!) so there was constantly doors slamming and people walking through. then we found out why our room wasnt prepared for us when we went in - the woman who was in my bed before me complained as there were bugs all over the curtain and all over her bed as they had dropped from the curtain. so everything was being properly cleaned and luckily iw asnt bitten by any bugs! we didnt do much that day but laundry! the next day we took a trip to the australia zoo which was amazing! got to see my koalas and wombats. there were kangaroos just jumping about and you could go pet them . was pretty awesome. then we went to the crocoseum to the show thing and was awesome! turned out we had picked our days right to go to the zoo as terri, bindi and bob irwin were all there filming the next show im guessing (as they were constantly being filmed). and from the 11th - 15th april bindi was set to be performing at the crocoseum with her 'crocmen'. now i have been a cheerleader for the past few years and have seem men dance and look incredibly camp but NOTHING prepared me for the croc men. was definately one of the most 'entertaining' things I have seen. bindi was absolutely amazing though. could not get over how she could get up infront of hundreds of people at 8 years old. not only that but in a place where there is mention of her late father every 2 minutes. no one could complete a sentance at the zoo without mentioning steve irwin. so much so that you kinda forget his death. nevertheless, i could not get over that girls strength. i know i couldnt do it. anyway, saw some nice crocodiles and snakes and everything too. i seem to have developed a phobia of birds however.
so after the australia zoo we headed back to our hostel and chilled for the evening again (and i got to watch home and away over here - its SO exciting).
the next day we got on a bus down to brisbane. we stayed in brisbane for all of 5 hours (basically because i wanted to haul myself over to the suburb of strathpine as some home and away people were there signing autographs. al refused to join me on this escapade. but it was an awesome day - got to see cassie, drew, dan and brad. however i was slightly confused - i was the only 20 year old there. everyone else seemes to be about 40 (having watched iot all their lives) or 13 and under (which i was slightly worried about as the main storyline at the moment is based around drugs and martha becoming a stripper - hardly 8 year old material!) so after that awesome day we headed down to surfers paradiase as chrissy (my canadian friend who I met on koh samui, koh phi phi and travelled to the perhentians with) is living and working there for the next year. surfers paradise is pretty much the australian benidorm. and EVERYONE dresses up here SO much! i felt so skanky in my birkenstocks when everyone else is i dresses and heels. i got a lot of disgusted looks. but once i got the sunglasses on it didnt matter! so you can party in surfers until 5 am but there is lockin from 305 so if you are not in a bar after 3am - you wont get in anywhere. all is fine though - just find yourself a nice stretch of hallway and throw some shapes to the sound of the bar next doors tunes. all in all - an awesome night. yesterday morning we headed down to the beach and it turned out there was a surf comp going on there and the 20 best surfers in the world were there. was pretty awesome to see what these guys could do! so we got the bus at 2:30 to Byron Bay and got here, settled into our hostel and got some food for dinner. tried to catch up on our sleep from saturday night but it was pretty impossible as in my dorm there is me, al and three other men. the smell of smelly men was stupidly overpowering and the gag reflex came into use a fair few times.
note to self....when calling ahead to book a dorm - if asked if i have any requirements - state - no room with smelly men.
so today I have been sat on the internet for a while. need to start investigating transport and sleeping in New zealand. If anyone knows anything about renting a car over there let me know. currently it is looking as if we will be camping our way through the country.
right, gwen stefanis hollaback girl has come on so ive gotta find al and throw some shapes to this tune. probably head down the beach in a bit
