Hi!
So we are nearing the end of our time in New Zealand......(tears) its been amazing here and we have loved every minute!!!!
We made our way from the south island to the north island and all the way upto Auckland were we started our north island trip! We dont really have much to say on Auckland. Its a nice city but not much to do there and we had 4 nights to spend there before our next stray bus. We spent most of the time in Auckland avoiding our hostel room because it was gross....we had a really smelly smelly man in there whos towel stank out the whole room it was actually making me feel sick! So we had to sleep with all the windows open just to try and clear the smell but it didnt really work! We also had a really old guy in our room as well who complained about everything and at one point in the middle of the night rang the police to complain about a, quote 'disturbance of people outside' basically a few drunk people being slightly loud! We couldnt wait to get out that room!!!! we spent 3 hours in starbucks one night reading our books just to get out the room!!! We finally left Auckland and were really happy that we got a really nice group of people on our north island bus!
We spent our first day in Hahei were we chilled on the beach and went to another beach where there is hot water that comes up through the sand, so you dig your own pool and chill in the hot water! only problem was we couldnt sit in it because the water was actually boiling! It was like sitting in a kettle! we all came back with red bums haha!!! oh and amy got pooed on by a seagul which I think was the highlight of the day haha!!! Our stray bus driver was really nice and cooked us all a bbq that night. We then moved onto a place called Raglan were we went on a bush walk (wasnt that great a walk) didnt get to see anything apart from trees and more trees!! If you like trees its a great walk ha!!! And again just chilled out that evening in the hostel and our stray driver cooked us dinner again!
The next day we had our cultural stay over at Maketu which we were all really excited about. We went for another walk on the way to Maketu to see some caves. Maketu is in the middle of no where and we stayed with a Maori tribe! We had such a fun night. The Maori tribe cook you all dinner and then put a traditional show on for you and then afterwards we all had to join in and the boys learnt the hacker and the girls learnt a Maori dance. We all had to dress up and put traditional maori paint on our faces and then perform our dances to each other! watching the boys perform the hacker was hilarious!!! Afterwards we all walked down to the beach with our booze to have fun on the beach...... we all sat there for a while whilst some people tried to build a bonfire considering there was 18 of us this should not have been hard but after about 20 mins of not getting anywhere with the bonfire, i said can i have a go! So i stepped in and set up the bonfire again and eventually after some great TLC I managed all by myself to get a bonfire going! ( can you tell that this was one of my highlights!!! I was well pleased that I managed to actually get a bonfire going!) So we ended up staying there all night till about 4 round the bonfire getting rather drunk haha!!!
We set off from Maketu to Rotarua and stopped off at a rabbit shearing shed along the way which was so random! basically there are some massive rabbits in New Zealand that grow too much hair so they have to shear them! It was very random watching a rabbit being sheared! We made our way to rotarua which is a nice town by a lake but because of all the thermal activity in New Zealand Rotarua is known for its thermal pools but this means that the whole town stinks of Sulpher rotting eggs!!! We spent the day in rotarua just looking around the town and then went out that night for halloween and once again had a few too many drinks and I tell you know a town that smells like rotting eggs is not good on a hangover!!!!
After rotarua we headed to Taupo. Along the way we went white water rafting off a 7m waterfall which was ace fun but freezing cold water!!! that definatly got rid of my hangover!!! Then it was time for Taupo....skydive time!!!!
We headed straight for the skydive place and got picked up from our hostel by the skydive people in a limousine haha....not actually as elegant as it sounds as we were all squashed into the back of this limo! So we got there but the wind speed was quite high but they took us up anyway, so some people jumped out at 12000 ft at this point I was thinking why have i decided to go 3000ft higher 12000ft seems fine!!!! and then there was just 4 of us left. 2 boys and me and another girl. the 2 boys jumped out at 15000ft but because we weigh lighter and the wind had picked up again my instructor wasnt happy about jumping out so we had to go all the way back down.....it was such torture because the plane journey was horrid and I had so much adrenaline and then all of a sudden it was gone! So I had to go back the next day and face the whole plane journey again!!! I actually felt more prepared tho because id had a taster of what was about to happen!!! When we got to 15000ft again I actually couldnt wait to get out the plane......and omg.....it was well worth the wait!!! It was amazing and again one of the best things Ive ever done!!! I cant say what was better the bunjy or the skydive beacuse they are both so different! The skydive was a 60s freefall and i loved every second of it! felt like i was flying!!! Ul all have to watch my dvd when i get home!!! funny incident happened tho....got to the bottom and landed on the ground and the guy who caught us when we landed...first thing he said to me was " mate youve got snot all down ur cheek" haha......niceeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! I was like omg how embarrasing haha.....fortunatly for me it is not on my dvd much to amys disapoinment coz she wanted some snot action haha!!!!
The next day in Taupo we met up with some lads that we met in rotarua and went to a thermal spa park and it was rubbish we spent about an hour walking there and there was nothing to see other that one little bit of hot water more like a puddle than a pool!! So on the way back we walked past the taupo bunjy site and I thought hmmmm "shall I" so ended up lauching myself 47m off a cliff and got dunked into the river below which again was ace fun!!!!! I think i am hooked to jumping off things!!! what will be my next big adrenaline thing.....the biggest bunjy in china 230m!!! who knows haha!!! that night (last night) we all went to a pub quiz and got slightly drunk......not good when our tongariro crossing walk was today! 18K on a hangover.....this morning I did not think i was going to make it but we pulled through and had an amazing walk up a volcano and saw the most amazing views!!! The best bit was at the top there is snow and we all set off walking back down the slope on snow but then we thought sod this and sat on our bums and sledged down the whole way....it was ace fun!!! we got really wet tho and could have done with my skies but sledging on your bum was well fun!!!!
We are now at the end of our trip really in New Zealand we are just making our way back upto Auckland on friday and then we fly to fiji on Sunday!
New Zealand has been one of the best countries I have ever been to and we have met some really nice people here and had some amazing fun!!! We are really going to miss New Zealand but we are ready to chill out on a beach for 12 days!!!!
love to you all Hannah x
