Hi again....
We left Siem Reap and went straight to Sihanouville on an over night bus which wasnt too bad but the journey was very rough and bumpy as the roads are more dirt tracks in some places. We also kept on stopping and then random people would get on and get off which was weird and the so called toilet that was advertised on the bus was not a toilet but more like a tiny little hole under the bus that only a hobbit could fit into...however we made it to Sihanoukville fine!
Sihanoukville was lovely not as nice as we expected the beach to be but yet still a nice beach which was a welcome break after our sightseeing. We spent the whole time in Sihanoukville sunbathing and partying on the beach......we had a lot of fun at beach BBQs and UV paint party!! We stayed at a place called Mick and Craigs which was basically like a shed with a shower and toilet haha....when we first got there we didnt rate it much however it grew on us and we were sad to leave the place in the end haha!!!
We then travelled to Kampot which is only about 2 hours drive away from Sihanoukville . Its quiet little town on the river side which is really pretty and very different from the party scene we left in Sihanoukville!! We decided that we would book ourselves onto a trip in Kampot to take us to the Bokor National Park. The trip started off with us trekking in the park up the side of a mountain in the forrest which was good but very very hot dont think ive ever sweated so much in my life! Our guide was telling us about his exerience in the khmer rouge and how his family got kidnapped and tied up with ropes by the soilders and taken in the forrest to be killed he managed to escape when they untied him and he ran into the forrest, he said that they did not chase him because they were to busy killing his sister. He then lived in the forrest for 2 years as he could not go back to his village. He then returnd to the village when he heard all the fighting had stopped and found that the vietnam army had taken over his village so he joined their army to fight against the khmer rouge beacuse they killed his family!......it was an awful story and as he was telling us you couldnt believe that it was actually real life!
The trip took us to a ghost town that was abondoned by its people when the khmer rouge took over and it was finally used as a prison by the khmer rouge. As we left the ghost town on top of the mountain the heavens opened and I have never seen rain like it......so our guide took us down the mountain in the back of a truck on the bumpiest road ever and we sat in the rain nearly the whole way!!!!! it was a fun day tho!
Today we have just chilled out in the sun and we are off to watch a school of cambodian children play music tonight. I have learnt a lot about the khmer rouge being in cambodia and it has definatly opened my eyes to a whole different world!!
Off to Vietnam tomorrow where hopefully our stories will continue!!!!
Love lots Hannah x
