First up for those who were wondering here are my travel plans for the next little while:
25 Oct 2008 Sofia Bulgaria Edit | Delete 27 Oct 2008 Belgrade Serbia and Montenegro Edit | Delete 29 Oct 2008 Bucarest Romania Edit | Delete 31 Oct 2008 Budapest Hungary Edit | Delete 3 Nov 2008 Krakov Poland Edit | Delete 5 Nov 2008 Bratislava Slovakia
And we're still working out after that.
So after Venice we were off to Vienna, capital of classical music such as Mozart and Strauss.
4th Oct: Had our first reasonably healthy meal in quite a while which was AMAZING!!! had vegie soup :) Austrians speak German :) "Gootentarg!"
The hostel we stayed at in Vienna was sooo good! Called the Wombat hostel, so you know anything Australian inclined is going to awesome :) Biiig pillows! Then we went to a Mozart and Strauss concert at some important palace where Mozart played his first piano or something...
They had a really cute dancer but two reeeally annoying singers... gaaah
Oooh and the hostel had free Wi-Fi so that's what me and Luce were doing the whole time (ipod touches... amazing!!(
5th: unfortunately our plans for our full day in Vienna were foiled by the fact that it was a Sunday which meant ALL shops were shut except souvenir shops... but the city itself is pretty amazing so had a bit of a wander and admired the natural beauty... and a church too.
Went to Shunbrunn Palace which is where the old rulers of the country, the Hapsburgs, resided half the year (they had a winter palace too) and this had 1440 rooms!!! Apple strudel making demonstration was pretty cool too. Schnapps demo too and they had some really yummy ones and I really wanted to get some for people for presents but they didn't have any small sizes, only huge ones which I thought would be too difficult...Then off to the Viennese dinner, SCHNITZEL!!! yummy :P
6th: Left the hostel early so we could go to Mauthausen concentration camp, an added extra because our tour manager and tour driver are both amazing and thought we would like it.
It was really quite an experience. it started off with a video and i tried not to cry.... and failed. The movie was about 20 years old i think but it was good because they managed to track down a few people who had been imprisoned, and also some outsiders, such as a family that hid some escaped jews. Wow it was intense.
Then off to the Czech Republic...
