Lucy & Hannah's Adventures!
Hi all!
Just to say that we`ve arrived safely in Japan! It`s as amazing as ever, even more so coming for the second time, as I`m recognising places and feeling oh-so like a local...(ok so not quite!)
The journey started off so well that before we`d even left Heathrow we`d been invited for dinner at a friendly Japanese man`s house! (It`s not as dodgy as it sounds, I promise! He has a wife and family and also lives in Sendai where Jonathan lives - they`re all just so welcoming!) However it was reassuring to know that Heathrow security was concerned and asked us as we were boarding whether we knew the friendly middle-aged gentleman who`d approached us(!) He also helped us to get to the shinkansen in Tokyo and bought us all lunch which was extremely kind. As a vegetarian, han g had a great welcome to Japanese food, her 2 first meals consisting of...rice and nuts!) It did get much better though! Having had a total of 0 hours sleep on the plane (and falling into delirious laughter on the train to Sendai) we had a wee rest at Teru`s appartment (J`s girlfriend) before going for food and nomihodai at Osamu`s Kitchen, a brilliant little restaurant that we visited last time. Nomihodai, for anyone I haven`t raved on about it to, is a great custom where you pay the equivalent of about ₤5 for 90 mins of drinking time, drinking as much of whatever you like. As you can imagine, it can be a messy business, particularly when 90 mins stretches to 190, and it certainly was the last time we went, as I`m sure my mum will remember! ;) Little Han was knocking back the cocktails with us all, and han g who was going wild on coke for most of the evening was acting more drunk than any of us... She`s been learning Japanese words in a very impressive Italian accent, and was busy practising them on the way home, shouting words at random strangers, who very much appreciated it I must say!
Today we`ve been visiting J`s school, where the kids are as enthusiastic as at his old school, running towards us and showing ridiculous appreciation for the stickers and badges we brought with us. Rumour has it that we`re off for sushi this evening, at a restaurant that`s been highly recommended to us by uncle Jimmie, so we`ll let you know how that goes James, can`t wait! And then who knows, perhaps a spot of karaoke might be in order..!
Hope all`s well in England and will be in touch again soon!
Lots of love,
Lucy and Hannah xxx
