Like a band of gypsies we go down the highway
Last day in Peru. Woke up this morning to go to the center of Lima. Wandered around watching the changing of the guards in front of the government building, explored local markets, etc., and then ended up walking into a really bad area which I only found out wasn't safe when my taxi driver lectured me about how there were "rats" and robbers all over, the whole ride back to Barranco where I'm staying.
Am staying at Barranco's Backpacker's Inn with a view of the ocean from my balcony. Yesterday walked along the beach and made friends with local market venders to practice my spanish. Drank Pisco Sours on a bar balcony in the afternoon and then said goodbye to my Swedish roommate. At night went out to club Dejavu, where the bartender played a wierd instrumental Spanish version of the Happy Birthday song. Met a girl from Cuba and her brother who were both working in Lima for a couple of months. They were so nice, buying me drinks, taking me dancing, etc., after only knowing me for about 5 minutes. The girl is going to Costa Rica in November so I might meet up with her there if she goes to San Jose.
The night before my tour guide and my Swedish roommate took me out to some bars in Miraflores (a neighborhood of Lima) so we could celebrate officially the exact moment when I turned 21, but seeing as we had gotten up at 4:30am that morning, we didn't stay out too late.
All in all a good birthday and definately a memorable one. Excited to go to Panama tomorrow though. And if any of you recieve a call tomorrow that says "unknown number," answer it because I'll have lots of free time at the airport to maybe make a few calls. Hopefully talk to some of you soon. Love.
