CUANDIXIA MOUNTAIN VILLAGE, Beijing Province:
Woke up fairly early and got the subway all the way to the end of line 1. The plan was to go to Cuandixia, a cultural village in the mountains, about 90km west of Beijing City. We were going to get a bus but ended up getting a taxi because the taxi driver was friendly and offered us a good deal!
The taxi ride took us up and down through mountains and valleys - the views were beautiful. It took about 2 hours in the taxi, stopping only once for the driver to have a quick cigarette and for us to take some photos of the views.
The village itself was awesome. loads of old traditional chinese houses, built into the mountains. you could wander through the courtyards, and the people who lived there invited you to look into the houses, and offered food and drinks. It wasn't too hot today, but it was really humid, so walking up into all the mountains wasn't really possible, but we did have a decent wander. We went to find 'Fairy Avatar Pool', which sounds really cool, but it was actually a small pond that was pretty minging.. But other than that the village was really beautiful. (excluding the toilets... WORST experience of China... worse than any 'toilet' in Argentina!)
On the way back to the subway station at the end of line 1, we drove past a snake! The taxi driver said it was small, but it looked pretty big to me!
