I had such an amazing birthday in Fiji, it was definitely one I will never forget. The day before Sowani and his nephew, Peni went upstream to catch prawns. On the day I was treated to food cooked in an earth oven (lovo) such as roast chicken, dalo, chicken curry and the biggest prawns I've ever eaten cooked in coconut milk. Everyone else looked on with envy as we sat on a mat under the bamboo trees with Sowani glaring at anyone who even looked at my prawns. I ate 8 in total, a new record. Lunch was followed by a massive surprise birthday cake which lasted no more than a few minutes. Again the afternoon was spent soaking in the river.
The next day I travelled with Peni to Suva so I could take Yaca to school. She looked so cute in her uniform on her first day. The school had a really nice feel and Mrs Jacobs seems nice. For the first week of school I've been sat outside the classroom with the other parents. Im hoping now on the 2nd week I can disappear to Suva for a few hours and hopefully hit the Olympic pool for some laps.
Little Hannah's dad is the Prime Ministers driver and bodyguard, at the weekend I was invited to a picnic at the PM's private holiday residence for his staff and their families. We all loaded into 3 buses and travelled down the coast to the beach, it was all very exciting. We had use of his private beach and had a lovo lunch. Hannah's mum (Mili) has just had a little baby, the PM was cross when he realised that the baby was outside (under the shade) and ordered Hannah's dad to bring the baby inside to sit in his house with his grand kids. You can imagine Mili's face when she was whisked away into the PM's house. I went to check on them, peaked through the door said hi only to realise that it was only the PM and Mili in the room. I didn't get to meet in person but he did ask Hannah's dad if i'd eaten lunch.
Yesterday I had a boys day out with Peni and his brother, Lino. I'd promised the kids that if they were good at school we'd go swimming at the outdoor pool. The boys were extremely excited and we spent a good few hours splashing around in the water. This was followed by a yummy Mac Donalds.
