My first blog post- exciting, nerve-wracking, self-conscious- but you are friends and family (atleast until I become a famous travel blogger with millions of loyal followers) so you have to love me right?
For those of you who are not quite sure what this is about, I am leaving March 9th for Israel and the beginning of a 6 month journey throughout some of the Middle East and Europe until my graduate school program starts in September in The Hague, The Netherlands. If all goes well, I will be staying with families and working on their farms or in their hostels in exchange for free food and accommodation, hopefully, with a little personal travel on the side. At the end of this journey is a reunion with mom and dad in Brussels to celebrate mom and I's birthday in August!
My goal is to try and relay all of the highs and lows, arrivals and departures, meetings and farewells and everything in between, that this trip is sure to bring. After all, you are the people I care about most and I want to share this with you. I am going to do my best to be honest about first impressions, awkward and embarrassing moments, things I find annoying, things I find beautiful, things (or people) that I just can't understand, but, most importantly, things I will wish you all could be experiencing with me at that exact moment. It is sure to bring nerdy political rants/thoughts, deep and intellectually stimulating conclusions (let's not get ahead of ourselves) and, if you know me at all, irritable Lindsey rants (most likely when times of transition are ahead). It all comes with the territory.
I welcome comments (constructive, humorous and mindful) but if they aren't positive in nature, keep them to yourselves please (or atleast in closed e-mail chain that I am not privy to). ((Am I using paranthesis too much??))))))) This going to be an "on the job training" experience and I want it to be fun for all of us and a great way to continue to share our lives despite the physical distance between us. It's going to be PG-13, sorry Beeches, so don't be afraid to show the kids or grandparents!
Here's to the yokes (and jokes), the tears(hopefully few), the frustrations(even fewer), the new friends, the moments of overwhelming joy (too many to count), the dwindling bank account but the compilation of memories. Here's to the amazing world we live in and the existence of a human spirit which drives us to share it with one another. I'll miss you all but, as we would say at beeches, I carry you with me always.
Let's begin, shall we?

Sheldon already laughing too loud, tearing up like a proud beech does, and acting like a giddy child who can't wait for the many posts to come. So excited to follow you in your adventures and pretend I'm there! (ps, there is nevery too many parentheses...)
Rev. Tyler Burton Addison, Esq. Yes, first to comment! My jealousy knows no bounds. How I wish I could give in to my own wanderlust. Since, you haven't really done anything yet (and my comments on Gainesville are well known), I will only say be safe. Also, if you run into Netanyahu, please deliver this message, "Do not start a war with Iran, I am still draft eligible for two more years." If they should they start a war, I would suggest to bail immediately to Kuwait. I look forward to following your journey, and providing sesquipedalian commentary to guise my jealousy. P.S. Have fun missing this vaudevillian primary season.
C-dawg. (Self made nickname) I cried. Linds you're a beautiful writer, a courageous traveler, a friend any traveler would be lucky to meet and a crazy women. Im an emotional wreck. Make sure Paul checks all safety features first. I cant wait to be with you in our own ways on this journey.
lolo honestly, i have subscribed, and bookmarked...just in case my email fails me when you make a new post. I cannot wait to live this journey with you dear. You are stronger and braver than anyone I know, and you are going to leave some serious tracks in every country you conquer. My selfish side is sad to let you go...but I know that the rest of this world should get their share of this amazing woman! Be nice to her out there...or you will have to go through me! ha Alright alright, I will let Paul be the protective one. I love you and I will miss you every day!
Margie To see these ventures through your eyes will be a true joy. What an amazing opportunity you have created for yourself. May you find safe harbor every where you go and continue to let the light shine in your life. It will be great fun to share the journey with you.
