Rincon De La Vieja is a National Park with hot springs, a volcano, hiking, waterfalls and tons more. We rented a car for two days and the first day we had it, we did a "Bisht Beach Bonanza" and the second day we drove to Rincon De La Vieja. So, as I was saying, we drove to Rincon De La Vieja, when we got there we drove to the information desk. While mom was talking to the people at the desk, I was trying these yummy fruit waters in the corner. At the information desk we learned that each activity costs money even though we had already paid an entrance fee, we had no idea. When all of that was finished, we set off for a hiking trail around the volcano. On our way down a bridge we saw people taking photos of something, when we got closer we learned what it was, a giant spider like 2 inches long! The spider was creepy. It had yellow and black stripes on its legs and its head was pitch black. After mom got a million pictures we kept going on our hike. We walked a long time to finally find what we were looking for. We saw bubbling mud, the mud was bubbling because the lava of the volcano was underground. We could smell stinky sulfer coming from the mud, we could also see steam coming up through the mud. When we got further up the trail we kept seeing rocks with smoke coming out from under them. On the trail there was a man and woman who we saw occasionally during the hike, they were from Oregon. We had a tired Lucas with us, so we couldn't finish the hike, we turned around and headed to our next activity.
Our next activity was to hike to a waterfall! I wouldn't exactly call it a hike, it was more like a 10 minute walk. The waterfall was close to the volcano, we paid the entrance fee at a little cafe. We didn't go straight to the waterfall after that, we hung out at the cafe for a little, had a snack and used the bathroom. When everybody had a little snack and used the bathroom we headed to the entrance of the waterfall trail. We took a little walk down a jungly path, it was so jungly that you could run into a tree in the middle of the path once or twice. At the end of the hike, we had to go down a steep suspension bridge. The bridge was kinda creepy to walk down, if there was to much weight on it, it could fall. Because of the weight problem we could only have two people on the bridge at a time. It took awhile to get everybody down the bridge, with a family of six we had to take three trips. When everybody finally got down the bridge we went to the awesome scenery. The waterfall was very beautiful, I felt like I could be in some kind of fairy tale! There were big blue butterflies fluttering around the waterfall and the water was a beautiful teal color. My dad found that you could go under the place where you were supposed to look at the waterfall, and of course my brothers wanted to join him. There were two people at the waterfall when we got there, and after a few minutes they left. My mom asked dad if he was going to jump in even though it wasn't allowed It was funny, pictures of Rincon De La Vieja's Catarata waterfall showed people swimming in the waterfall , but it wasn't allowed. Dad ended up jumping into the water and swimming for a few minutes, I thought it was a big joke but apparently, it wasn't. When dad got out he told us it was awesome and that the water was freezing. Then mom wanted to do it. Mom quickly covered herself with a towel and changed into her swimsuit. When she was done she jumped in and swam for a little. I got a video of her jumping in on my water camera. When both my parents were done with their swim we gazed at the dreamy fairy tale like waterfall for a few more minutes, then went up the steep bridge once more and continued the hike up to our car. When we got in the car we chatted for a while about our adventure!
On our way back we passed through Liberia, Liberia is a big city in Costa Rica. Liberia is so big, it has a McDonalds, a Burger King, and many more businusses that are in the states. Us kids ate burgers and fries from Burger King and mom and dad ate pizza from Pizza Hut, another busuness in the states. When our late lunch was over, we got back into the car and went to Walmart. We hadn't been to a big store like Walmart for more than two months! All the stores in Costa Rica that we have been to have been Super Markets. At Walmart dad found a good looking steak! We hadn't had good steak for forever, the Costa Rican steak is tough and not good at all. After getting tons of stuff at Walmart we headed home.
