Overland trip finished in Cape Town with a stop along Orange River en route. Have had a lot of laughs on the truck and have met some great people. Bullet points (you know I love them) of things I've learned:
- Aussies/Kiwis good people so speak to them in future
- Just because I don't like whistling doens't mean it annoys everybody
- I can read on a bus
- Camping is fun when you have a good tent buddy
- Cool boxes will now be called Eskis and flip-flops are jandals
So Nat and I left the comfort of travelling in a group behind us and went off to fend for ourselves. Was difficult at first. Wondering when we should eat and how much money we should take out the ATM - it was all a bit much to start with. Now we're into full swing of independent travelling and have been up Table Mountain (cable car, no hiking in jandals), hired a car and have travelled over a 1000km in 2 days mainly to do a bungee jump. District Six museum in Cape Town is worth a visit - in fact the recommended walking tour in the local map is a great wat to see the centre. Wasn't overly impressed with the art museum beside the president's residence - was a little over my head.
Now we're in Stellenbosch for a day longer than expected. Somehow we both managed to get confused over how many days are in October and thought our flight was today, 1st Nov. Luckily we phoned mum to wish her a happy birthday and she reminded us it was the following day! Where would we be without you mum? We'd be waiting 24 hours at the airport...
South Africa is a little strange to finish in after the rest of Africa. Roads, shopping malls, cafes and pretty much everything is just like UK. Only difference being they don't have family size bags of wine gums at the petrol stations. Fun on the roads - nearly an accident involving a guinea fowl but luckily nothing on the other side of the road when I swerved to avoid it. Went to a vinyard for lunch and found have a slug on my plate towards the end of my salad. Hey, we had worms for a month in India without knowing so I laughed it off when I said to the waitress they should pop the half-slug back in the garden so his family can mourn him. Actually reminds me off a question I need answered: if you bite a bit of your tongue off will it grow back like starfish? I don't mean your tongue will grow back as a starfish. That is silly.
So, despite depleting bank funds, we have made a few key wardrobe purchases in Mr Price so we're ready for the Buenos Aires nightlife. Haven't confirmed our flight tomorrow but we live on the edge.
