Tales of the Travelling Princess
Best place in India to date. People are friendly. City easy to navigate on foot (although a map would have saved us our 3km detour).
We did a walking tour that Lonely Planet details but the person who wrote it obviously never tried to walk it themselves. After asking lots of helpful people we managed to get to the river for a wee ferry trip. Very relaxing place to be in and we now feel very wise to all the tricks of the touting trade. We obviously look like we won't take any s*** from people as they tend to leave us alone. Hindi lessons have been a brilliant help as most people we meet who are nice can't speak English.
So, we took the 33 hour train journey to Kolkata not really knowing what direction to take after. Perhaps go south? Go right back across the country to Rajhastan? Hmm. 2 weeks before we go to Nepal so we decided to have a nice relaxing holiday on a Thailand beach before attempting Everest. Return tickets only 120GBP and what is a few pounds between sisters? Nat's treat.
