Tales of the Travelling Princess
Beefburgers, bikinis, booze and beaches. Bliss. Well, for a fortnight at least. A break was needed from the backpacking scene so we opted for a Bangkok shopping spree (put it on the credit card, mum) along with a tanning session on the costa del sol of Thailand.
Whisked Natalie around Bangkok like I was a professional guide. It all felt very strange as it felt like only last month when I was there travelling the first time. I love Bangkok to bits and I would move there in a flash if there were snow and mountains. We went straight to McDonald's and ate a small cow. We were slightly worried we would be sick after being veggies for so long but we soon realised we couldn't be any more sick than when in India. Nat made me take worming tablets as she was taking them. Done the trick though! If she continues to be Mother Teresa working in the slums then that is her reward.
Decided to go to Ko Samui as we thought (wrongly) we could do some island hopping. b******s to that after 3 nights - just stay put and make the most of 24hr McDonald's. Frequented the Irish bar most nights (Natalie fairly useless as a team member on the pub quiz - didn't know what the largest joint in your body is!) and lazed around the Ark Bar during the day on their sun loungers. Met a lass from Auld Reekie, Melanie, who we had a great time with.
Luckily we were there for the Full Moon Party on the next island, Ko Phangnan. Quick recap: dancing lessons to local Thai people, several vodkas, missing Natalie for 2 hours who later turned up on a table fast asleep, I realised I'm fluent in Italian, lost Melanie for 4 hours, woke up at 6.30am to find the sun was up and we had to work out which of the 20 boats was our boat, found Melanie in the sea, all safe and well. Made it back to Ark Bar for breakfast and a quick sunbathe before heading to bed at midday.
Very memorable times had all round. Tattoos, taxi motorbike rides, drag shows, teaching 'I have never..have you ever' to the Arab world.
Journey by coach to/from Bangkok bit of a joke - tyres blowing out, bus changes on the hard shoulder of a busy motorway at 1am, boat was full so another bus to another port, bags on and off more times than Natalie blows her nose (a hell of a lot, I tell you!) and not a single person to tell you what is going on.
But all a refreshing change from the India we know and love. No, really. India is alright. Just one more Big Mac before we go back.
