Wednesday 27th - We spent the day checking out Nice. All the shops in the old part of the city. Exotic aromas from the spice & perfume shops. Very narrow winding alleyways. Vivid colored buildings with contrasting shutters. Walked along the beach promenade all lit up in the evening. I think last trip we didn't come to Nice to stay because we thought it would be like surfers paradise. Delighted that it wasn't. Yummy wood fired pizzas from the Italian restaurant around the corner & some red wine finished the day. Bring on Italy!
Thursday 28th Oct- Off to Vence, a medieval village in the hills. Had lunch there then down to St Paul De Vence. A little gem about an hour from Nice.
We wandered the alleyways, had a great day. Such history & amazing views of the hills & through to the coast.
Frid 30th Oct- Watched the formula 40 catamarans at Nice. A relaxing day with music, balmy weather & no wind. Not so good for the cats. No Aussies racing though.
Enjoyed the beach promenade, warm evenings when everyone old, young & in between out & about. The locals love life & spent lots of time dining & socializing.
Sat 1st Oct- John up at 5am & off to the Irish pub to watch the match. Stelle arrived by plane halfway through the match & joined John to watch the last half.
Liz, Paul & I headed to Monaco by bus (1euro to see one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world!).
John & Stelle met us there shortly after. We had a lovely day, saw changing of the guards at the palace, wandered the streets, drooled at the expensive boats/cars & watched the still med sea with the heat haze in the background.
Decided to return on Mon for another look.
Sun 2nd Oct- Showed Stelle Nice. She loved it, said she felt like she was in a different country. Buildings are bright colored with contrasting shutters. We all went up a hill in Nice with 360 deg views of Nice. Liz & Paul spent the day up there watching the catamarans.
John & Stelle went for a swim in the sea. Quite tricky to get in over the pebbles but they stayed in for a while so worth it.
We had afternoon tea at a cafe. Stelle sent the food back as it was cold! She spoke
French to the waiter which makes life much easier for us.
Went with Stelle to airport. Quite strange seeing her off in Nice while she returned to Paris! She said she had a great w/e despite the footy!
