Today we had 2 lectures. As much as I love class and all, staying awake for 2 & half hours of lectures is a bit painful when you have only had a couple hours of sleep. But I made it through alive. After lectures we went to the Scrovegni Chapel. This chapel was really cool because it had a ton of little paintings all along the walls. On one side it had depictions of the life of Christ. On the other it showed the lives of Mary and her father. Then on either side it had seven panels displaying the seven deadly sins on one side and the seven virtues on the other.Prominent on one wall was the Last Judgment.I thought it was really cool how biblical this building was.It wasn't just the main story of Jesus, but went more in-depth into stories and history of Mary and her lineage, sins, and virtues. The last judgment depicted the descriptions in Revelations. It is always really neat to me to see how important Christianity and bible knowledge was during this period.I think that some of these values could be reinstalled in our culture.
After the chapel, we went back to Venice on our own.A couple of us decided to take the water taxi out to Morano to try to see some glass blowing, but unfortunately they were all closed. So instead we just walked around looking in all the shops and admiring the individuality of all the glass pieces. After shopping for a while we took the water taxi back to the main island. We went to St. Marco's, a Byzantine church that has a huge plaza out front. The plaza is filled with pigeons that you can feed.It was kind of gross, but funny at the same time.We bought a bag of corn to feed to them. When you held your hand out at least 6 birds would come and land on you. When I did it I freaked out a little, there is some pretty funny video of my freak out.
Finally we went out to dinner at Iguana, a Mexican restaurant that was recommended to us.It was way worth the wait for the food and service. There were 3 people working in the entire restaurants: the cook, the bartender, and the waiter. They were a bit surprised to see 25 people show up for dinner, but it was amazing.I had a chicken quesadilla, but I tried Phillip's Enchilada? so good!It was nice to have a taste of home with Mexican.Mexican will be pretty high on my list of things I have to eat once I get back in the states. This is list is growing by the minute.
