The first thing Ian did was put the roof down on the car. It seemed a lot cooler up in the mountains & it was great to capture all the amazing views without the roof up.
We set off towards San francisco knowing this was going to be a long drive. On the way we stopped off at mono lake which was a great find on the way. After a couple of hours we pulled over in a town for some gas & spotted a picnic area so we decided to eat our butties. Whilst munching on our sarnies Ian noticed a little goafer running between two holes in the ground carrying dry grass, we sat & watched him for about 10 minutes, we wanted to take him home.
We started to climb up the mountains which was incredible, so many twists & turns & spectacular views of Yosemite park. Because of the slow going it took us longer than expected, but it was worth it.
The heat soon arrived again and we were both burning so we pulled over & put the hood up.
We eventually reached san fran about 6pm, we had to queue for ages to get into the city with all its one way streets & cable cars. We parked up pocahontas and checked in.
The hotel we are staying in is currently undergoing a £7million renovation so the lobby is technically a building site, they told us we had been upgraded to a new room which was nice of them.
We dumped the suitcases & went to find the nearest starbucks for an English breakfast tea. We thought China town was a good direction to head in but soon realised it was all up hill & we didnt know how to catch the trams! So we settled for a nice little Italian & had a great meal.
Up nice & early for Alcatraz first thing followed by a trip to the golden gate bridge. We will be avoiding using the car in San Fran as the roads are mental!

Debra wow wow wow - goafer too, how incredible..... hope you got plenty of pics up in the mountains. My friend lives up in the wine region outside San Fran. I can see you both in the city - dont get locked in Alcatraz!!!
grocottlounthoneymoon2012 We drove through that region on saturday m, very different to what we have seen. They seem to grow a lot of fruit in that neck of the woods & is clear when you drive through. Alcatraz was amazing, the tram was better! X x
