Well today we were going to explore Niagara Falls. There were a million ways we could have done it but again Trip Advisor came to the rescue and recommended an up close and personal tour of the falls. It left the hotel at 9am and returned at 4pm so a big day on a bus with people we didn't know. I was excited and we weren't disappointed. On the tour we visited the Skylon tower with and indoor and outdoor observation deck on the top level. It is 70 storeys high and you get to the top via a glass elevator that overlooks the falls - spectacular view. It doesn't matter how much you look at the falls, you can't get enough - there is something mesmorising about them. Here we caught the barrel over the falls and survived - check out the photos.
After the tower it was off to Journey Behind the Falls - and that is excactly what it was. There have been many tunnels made under the falls over the years for hydroelectric power stations and this journey took us down to the bottom of the falls to a tunnel that comes out right next to the horseshoe falls - raincoats were needed. It was incredible, the force of the water is unbelievable. Check out the photos of Oli in his yellow raincoat (the colour is important as you will see when I get to the Maid of the Mist Boat Ride).
It was then off to lunch where hot dogs and fries were the flavour of the day - couldn't do the chilli and cheese sauce but did manage the mustard and ketchup! We were then herded into a souvenir shop which was the best shop we had come across so a few gifts were purchased here. Off to the floral clock and a butterfly observatory which may sound corny but was fantastic. Over 2000 species of butterflies from all over the world, landing on you! This is where Oli got to see the most poisonous frog in the world that comes from Brazil - it is blue and black and quite tiny but up there as one of the most deadliest creatures on earth - check out the photos.
They saved the best til last - a 25 minute boat ride up Niagara River to the American and Horseshoe Falls - we needed blue raincoats for this one but may as well not had any raincoats on because we were saturated. I have taken a video of this adventure to try and give you some perspective of the noise, force of the water and the wind and spray - it was definitely the best experience - beats any adventure park and something we will never forget.
We are off back to New York tomorrow to meet Steve and Chelle and start our shopping adventure of New York. They tell me they will change my ways and have me interested in shopping before we leave - we'll see!
Stay tuned for the next edition of our blog!
Lots of Love
Oli and Lisa
