Come with me on a journey through time and space
Day 8 of the connections tour
Our trip took us to Airlie Beach - gateway to the whitsundays. along the way we stopped at a shopping mall, perfect timing as it meant for our 3 day "day bag" i could buy new clothes for the duration as i couldnt be bothered to do any more washing.
Airlie beach didnt actually have a proper beach it had a man made lagoon, probably just as well as you couldnt swim in the ocean unless you had stinger suits or where in a netted area to avoid getting stung by jelly fish, the worst of which is the box jellyfish, it may kill you, along with everything in this country. Finally brought a new hat, typical aussie bushman hat and some flip flops, which are called thongs here. this did cause some confusion for me. then a beer and food down tut pub.
I decided to swap my 3 day sailing trip for just a 1 day trip so that i could spend some more time on the island. i feel i definately made the righht choice.
We left our coach behind and took a ferry to long island, our home for the next few days. The resort was lovely, hammochs between palm trees on the beach front. accomodation was basic but nice. it was paradise in sun, unfortunately we had lots of rain, a cyclone was on its way. 1 hour sun followed by 1 hour rain seemed to be the norm. headed to the bar.
We had the worst location of the trip for food, basically a bug filled garage with a small kitchen attached, aisha & pete done a great job as the food was still of good standard. now back to the bar.
There was some live entertainment, a pretty good singer. after consuming a few cheeky bevarages i took the oportunity to sneek on stage when the singer took a break to have a run on the bongo's followed by a little guitar solo, it was of a very poor standard but it got a laugh. this is becoming a habit.
a few more drinks until the bar shut and of to bed.
