We arrived safe and sound. India was its normal self - lots of progress, buildings, metro under construction but underneath it was still the same with little stalls, cows, lots of colours and smells. We checked into our hotel, it was as we remembered from 6 years ago. Check in was typically Indian, the owner had to fill out an enormous register that seemed to date back to the 50s.
We went off to get a good breakfast at a place we knew - Fort Cochin is a very civilised start to India. It has lots of good restaurants and you can get a good breakfast. After this, we had a quick stroll and went back to the hotel to catch up on some sleep.
Next day we explored Fort Cochin and Jewtown. We walked to Jewtown past all the spice trading companies. We went round the Dutch Palace - interesting but not outstanding - what do you expect for 5p entrance fee? We decided to stop for lunch as it was very hot - we found a nice place in an antique shop overlooking the water. Ken & Judi decided to chill there whilst we looked round the shops. We then all went round the synagogue - I remembered it from our last visit, not that great and very bossy staff.
Fran & I went into Ernakulum as she had managed to break the filter on my camera. This involved a pleasant ferry ride and negotiating with the local taxi drivers - as usual they wanted 4 times the going rate and I would not pay that, much to Fran's disgust (it was all over 75p!). It all ended well and I managed to have the camera cleaned and a new filter for it.
