Grant-Sol Vs The World
This is 2 weeks late due to unforseen circumstances (app not uploading, then no electric or running water) but thats another blog coming shortly! Anyway here you go....
Hey amigos! This week hasn't been as exotic as the others with 4 days constant rain and when your budgeting on an island such as samui there's not a great deal u can do but stay indoors.....although I'd still rather be rained in over here than in the UK lol Luckily it did stop temporarily on weds eve which was the Loy Krathong festival in which the locals make little krathongs (made of banana leaves with incense sticks, a candle, flowers and a couple of coins) and float them off down a river or on a lake to wash away bad luck or sins from the past year. The lake was filled with them and stalls were erected around the perimeter with all kinds of food, drinks, games and clothes on sale. The night was fantastic as the festival is primarily for the locals but they embraced the tourists there and the vibe the whole evening was bliss. We were spoilt for choice with the food selection as it was all at Thai price and not the tourist price (sometimes 4x the price) and there were foods available we had yet to encounter. We tried octopus tentacles bt was too stuffed to try the mealworms n locusts by the time we saw them. The beauty pageant on show was also good although some of the contestants who'd been eliminated looked vex that there were a few ladyboys still in the running n they weren't haha (if I was a girl I would be). We drank our way through 5 cocktails each - a bargain at 60baht each (approx £1.20) We moved onto the reggae pub on the other side of the lake which was packed as everyone seemed to be out to celebrate and enjoyed the live band playing everything from Bob Marley to Nicki Minaj to Rhianna - they even played that old two step garage song 'make ya body move, ya got to let ya body groove!' ...no1 seemed to kno that 1 apart from us tho loool Apart from the wonderful festival it's been a bungalow flex leavin only to go to the shops or go out to eat. We have a few non tourist spots we are frequently goin to as the food is as authentic as can be, the regulars are Thai people and the prices are ridiculously low!! Lastnight however we opted to get glammed up (Laurah) n went to the Italian on our doorstep as we've heard great things n everytime we drive past the old, little Italian owner smiles and waves. We made up for eating on the cheap all week n had the most scrumptious belly-busting feast consisting of pizza (best ever had), a pasta dish and fillet mignon (very good steak) Mouths watering just thinking about it! Well that's it for now the sun n hot weather is due back Monday so we can adventure more then. Ciao- comments
