Hi Guys
Hope you are well.
We have now left Las Vegas, it was eating a hole in our funds!
We are now at the grotty Venice Beach hostel, Venice Beach, next to the contrasting beauty of Santa Monica.
Not quite sure what we were expecting but the hostel is very dirty! The room smells of pee and yet it is more expensive than the MGM Grand in Vegas!
Also, at night the homeless people congregate right across the road opposite the hostel. But we have a roof over our heads so we can`t complain!
Venice Beach is a bit like a mini Brighton, there are a lot of arty types, it is a bit alternative - good for people watching!
At night the beach is a no go area, as there is no one around. You have to head inland a few blocks to where the bars are which are OK, but we only found them on the second day. Good job really, money saved.
First day we walked along the beach to Santa Monica which is very nice, and we saw the work out playground for the very strong muscle men of America. Santa Monica is full of good looking, beautiful people. We fit in well here! It is also good for shopping and food.
Day two we drove to Santa Monica. as Lindsey wanted to do Hot Yoga, and she really enjoyed it.
I went and cleaned the car.... as it had to be back before we flew to South America the following day.
On day three we drove to Santa Monica and hired skates. Lindsey went for the 80`s retro roller boots. I went for inline skates. Lindsey did really well as she has not skated since she was 8 years old. She was padded from head to toe though, in case she fell over!!! We went for about an hour, with no bumps or scrapes I`m glad to say.
The rest of the day was sorting out suff for Ecuador back at our grotty Hostel.
We had lots of camping gear left over and lots of small coins, and blankets and two cooler boxes. We asked the hostel if they wanted them, they said ok, but did not seem bothered. We were heading back to the car with our bags and a nice homeless man asked for some spare change. I told him Lindsey had some so she gave him a whole mug full, he was very grateful. We still had our camping stuff in the car that we were going to give to the hostel. So on the way back we asked the man if he wanted our camping stuff. He was shocked and thought that all his christmases had come at once.
We felt very good after that, watching him walk away with his cooler box with a few coronas in and his blankets etc. Good deed done.
We had to drop the car off at Avis. All was good and they very kindly gave us a lift back to our Hotel, good service. I would use them again.
With our bags packed we went for a night swim at our hotel's heated swimming pool. Unfortunately - heated is was not!! we were numb from the neck down.
Next stop - Ecuador.
We will arrive 12pm Sunday night, which is going to be interesting!
