Graham & Jane
So today we are off to join the Avalon cruise which is the center piece of the trip.
As we were not due at the meeting point around lunchtime we had a short (yes it was short today) walk this morning around our hotel, and then back to pack and a taxi across Paris to the Pullman hotel Montparnasse. We decided to go before lunch and see what was around Montparnasse for lunch.
After checking in with cruise line, we took another very short walk down the street to a nice little cafe for crepe's and coffee (or beer). Then it was back to the hotel ready to board the bus to the ship. we boarded around 4pm to be welcomed with a nice glass of champagne and shown to our very nice room.
Where waiting for us like long lost friends were the caps, i know some of you have missed them so good job we found them again.
Our ship is the Avalon Tapestry II, the ship is smaller than the Viking one we went on a couple of years ago which makes for a much more intimate experience as there are only just over 100 people on board.
First things first and it was all up on the sun deck for the safety briefing, followed by down to the lounge for introductions to the crew, cruise director and hotel staff, then time to wash and brush up for dinner.
All good so far.
It was then down to dinner and as we sat down the ship started to sail, round the first couple of bends in the Seine as we traveled down river out of Paris, then a little bump. Well a bit more than that, we hit a bridge which as far as we have been able to see so far only damaged the forward radar. But we had to come to a halt, the police arrived, divers arrived to check the ship and it made for quite a bit of excitement. With many speculating if the captain would be arrested and what would happen to the cruise. However after an hour or so of sitting still, we were under way again.
Lets see where we are tomorrow, we are due to be in Giverny.
