Graham & Jane
A very long day of travel today.
We left our friend Sue's at 7:15am, to catch the 8am train to Edinburgh, however as there was no traffic in Stirling at that time in the morning we were in time to catch the 7:32 to Edinburgh which was fortunate as it was the express train only stopping twice, as we said "that was lucky". So we had time for a coffee on Edinburgh station.
Next the Virgin East Coast express from Edinburgh to London Kings Cross, whilst the longest leg of the journey it sped by as neither of us had ever been through the north of the UK and there was lots to see out the window. We were due to arrive at 13:49 into Kings X to give us plenty of time to catch the 15:30 Eurostar to Paris, and sure enough as we came to a stop right by the clock as it rolled over to 13:49:00. Right on time to the second, only time I could ever say that before was when travelling on the bullet train in Japan.
Now a quick walk from Kings X and into St Pancras and onto the Eurostar, whilst we have both been on this train before, one of us (I'll leave you to guess which one) always gets excited getting on this train. To make it even better we were fortunate to get on one of the 2nd generation trains. Very recently introduced they make the trip even more comfortable.
There was only one drawback to today, I omitted to take any pictures of the trains, which I will have to rectify on the return journey, so this is from the web rather than my own resources.
We arrived in Paris again spot on time and with a short taxi ride to our hotel the day of travel was complete. We are staying in Le Meridian Etoile which has just completed an overhaul, and is very comfortable.
Overall whilst a long day of travel, it was certainly easier and more comfortable than flying.
PS: Some of course will remember the title as the tag line from the 70's BR advert.
