Graeme round the world
Day 83 Thursday 15th June - The after dark tour of the city was great last night, the temples looked beautiful and Dinesh took me to a Hindu temple with scared fish, where we we given some food as an offering and blessing from the temple. We visited a Hari Khrishna temple which was very colourful and we joined in the singing prayers and watched the beautiful traditional dancing. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming, bt not thinking of joining just yet ;o) I got caught by a security guard climbing on the Federal reserve bank walls to get a photo of a statue, but smiled nicely and then ran off to my car :o) We got home about midnight after a great night out in Delhi, chaotic but fab fun. Today up at 6.30am for a dip in the pool before breakfast and our 280km journey from Delhi to Jaipor. It is the summer time here so now 40+ the good news is it means it is off peak as most tourists prefer to come in the cooler weather. It's funny because everywhere I have travelled around the world has always been the off season with less tourists which has been perfect for me :o) I have never been on a 'motorway' where so many cars/bikes/trucks are coming in the opposite direction at us. The rules of the road are there are very few rules of the road especially if you can see some sort of short cut however dangerous!!!! We are now entering Rajasthan were it is much more like a desert, so jewelry, carpets, cloth making are the ways that people make money here. The average wage in Delhi is $150 per month, so everyone is desperate to sell their goods, especially the street traders who think No means maybe and so always are hopeful you will change your mind and buy something, so it's been 'fun' dealing with them. Jaipor is beautiful and so is my hotel - Samode Havali, which is the converted Prime Minister's residence, so I feel very regal in my huge suite. Went for an amazing traditional Indian massage, where you strip and get covered in oil, massaged and then they pour hot oil onto your head, followed by an emtremly hot steam bath....so hot I thought I was on the Japanese game show 'endurance'!!!! I've been told I've brought good luck as there was a brief downpour for 2 hours, which made the roads even more chaotic when we went out for another curry and Indian music and dancing....of course got dragged up to do my version of the dance, which certainly gave everyone including me a good laugh. Went back to the hotel to try to watch the England game, but no luck, but by the sounds of it I was lucky not to watch it, but good news we won 2-0 all the same. Let's hope they play better when I get back :o)
