Guess where we are!
We made it safely though I cannot lie it did take a very very long time.
We arrived at the airport bright and early via a very efficient Gug Cabs service. Almost immediately we arrived Una started to feel very nervous and popped one of her rescue remedy pastilles. I cannot tell you how much a life saver this particular invention was and I kept them ready to fire one into my mouth at all times!
We checked in with Nanny B, who bless her had had her connecting flight delayed and had 0 sleep.... poor thing. The queue for check in was long and the shape of things to come started when one ginger son started to moan, very loudly, how bored he was (seriously we had only been waiting for about 10 mins by this stage).
Anyway after a bit more moaning and groaning and signficant whining, Oscar produced his finest moment of the trip whereupon a kindly attendant from US Airways opened up a check in desk just for for us and took us to the front of the line.... i don't think the 25 people in front of us were that impressed but ha!
We had a bite of breakfast and then had loads of fun at security where Nanny B and I received a full body search. I feel certain that the security guard was gratuitously swinging on the underwire in my bra? Then, comicly, i had to take my shoes off to have them searched, particularly hilarious as I was unable to untie my shoelaces and it took ages. To top off the whole experience, my handbag was emptied of its entire pharmarcy of drugs and everything sniffed and checked - this was Eva's fault because her liquid antibiotics set of the security alert!
We boarded and the children were delighted to find their own inflight entertainment. This proved to be a godsend and they spent the maj of the flight either watching films or taking trips to the toilet. This latter activity I felt re-assured me that I wasn't going to get a DVT because I did get up possibly 40 times :)
The flight attendant for our trip was 'Danny' who immediately grabbed our attention with his lego/thunderbird inspired hairdo. When he opened his mouth it was pure genius, particularly as he kept calling Eva, 'honey'. Just when you thought it couldn't get any better, Daryl and I then spotted Danny's amazing eyebrows - they were an impossible natural shape and I detected a touch of waxing may have been going on. Daryl and I played a fab game of eye-spy - I spy with my little eye, something beginning with 'F' - thats right - 'Facelift'! Spot the flight attendant with a face lift - this was a great way to while away the hours.
The flight was uneventful apart from a giant pocket of turbulence, whereby Oscar declared that somehow his stomach was in his throat!
We departed at Charlotte Airport - the most planes I have ever seen with US Airways on them. One took off and/or landed about every 20 seconds..
Sadly Charlotte was not a happy place and we will have no fond memories of our time there. We had a 3 hour wait for our connecting flight - we knew that - fine. Unfortunately our plane broke so we had to wait for a spare one to take its place - and guess what we were delayed - by two hours. By this time the plane was ready it was 6.30pm American time (add on 5 you geniuses and you will see just how dreadfully this is going to turn out). Our little gingery friend had been amazing up until this point and despite being desp unhappy about the delay had kepts it together but he kind of lost it and refused to get on the plane. We had to sort of manhandle him onto the plane - it was a bit embarrassing and a bit sad :(
Eva and Oscar both fell asleep on the flight down to Florida which was a blessing for us all!
The bags took forever to get to the airport and then we went to queue for the rental car. At this point Una had a moment of complete wan-ness it was now 8.30pm (clever ones add 5) - where I just lay on the suitcases and feigned death. Eva was funny because to help, she laid on top of me!
Complete drama on the car front, don't go there - lets just say that we got out of the airport car park at 9.20, pitch black and off we went to try and find out place.
Luckily we got completely lost so finally arrived at our '20 min drive from the aiport' at 10.45! Poor everyone - we were so so so tired.
But we're here and the place is lovely and the pool is lovely and now at 11.30 (and for the last time - add on 5 hours) we are off to bed.
