Hello Again,
We left Bangkok at 10 o'clock heading for Kanchanaburi. This is where the Bridge over the River Kwai is. We arrived at our accommodation - the Bamboo House at Lunch time. Our cabin room thing was right next to the River itself. We threw our backpacks onto the bed and headed off for some lunch. When we returned however we found a million ants in the bed! They had got into the packets of snacks that we had left in our rucksacks! Grrr. After much ant chasing we were free for the afternnon. We walked to the Museum to learn about the railway and visited the cemetery.
We relaxed looking at the views over the river in the afternoon, and went to the Night Market for dinner. 80p for 2 dinners and pop! Bargain!
The next day we hired a couple of bikes so that we could see the rest of town. Is was bloody hard work! We were both sweating buckets and kept having to stop at shops for ice. We managed to cycle to the Bridge and had a wander across it. Its sooo dangerous. There is literally just sleepers beneath you, no safety rails, nothing. They would not allow it in England. To add to the danger a train goes across it - you have to dodge it by jumping onto platforms.
We booked a night in the same Bamboo House - but this time on the river raft rooms. They are about a pound a night and rock every time a boat goes past. We still feel wobbly from it now! They were so cheap because you have to share the bathroom - thats ok we thought. Until we realised we were sharing with Lizards eek!
We survived! Next stop is Chiang Mai and trekking through the jungle, elephant riding and rafting for 3 days.
Let me know how everyone is back home!!!!!
