Goughie and Gater: le tour!!
We have now got our state of the art campervan, complete with kitchenette and dvd player and are on our road trip around NZ!
We spent the first couple of days in Auckland, went up the tallest tower in the southern hemisphere and went to an Ice Bar where we had to hire suits (which claire reckons looked like my pingu coat) and boots. It was so much fun in there, we drank cocktails called frisky penguins from glasses made out of ice and i even managed to find a huge randy rich lookalike!
Our first stop on the travels was Waitomo where we went Tumu Tumu Toobing which involves sitting in a black rubber ring and throwing yourself down waterfalls and the like in a cave full of gloworms. It was absolutely hilarious despite the water being freezing cold and defintely the most bizarre activity either of us have ever done!
We then set off for Rotorua with a bit of a hitch in the driving....we stopped for a very scenic lunch by the side of a lake, cooked up our soup and then went to carry on with our journey only to discover that we were stuck in the mud. And the place was completely deserted. Cue much pushing and shoving of the massive campervan by two girls who have no idea about what they are doing. Eventually we decided we needed to get help and so we walked to the nearest builiding to get some. Unfortunately this turned out to be a christian camp and so as not particularly religious people we went in and asked for a hand. Luckily for us Steve the Christian came to our rescue and pulled us out of the mud with his jeep!
We then made it to Rotorua in our van and went to one of the top ten spas in the world for some relaxation. The pools overlooked the lake which was fab.
